Important Note: This information was compiled and originally hosted by the creators of the Vision of Sages (VoS) Website. Due to the age of Trials of Atlantis, and the fact that the most recent post on the VoS web forums is nearly 3 years old, we are reprinting the Trials of Atlantis information from their website so that it does not become lost - like the artifacts they have done such an excellent job leading us to for the past several years.

The Shades of Mist and Traitor's Dagger now use new artwork to replace the necromancer shade form previously used for the shape change illusions. This change will no longer allow characters to be effectively invisible in some situations. (1.69 patch, Apr 14 2004)

The level 10 abiltiy is a shapechange (shade form) that gives you a chance to proc a 200 point ablative. I was grouped with a Cleric while shapchanged and when he cast his Heal Proc buff, it poped me out of shade form. I did notice when I had the heal proc on first and changed to shade I get a message saying you already have a defensive spell affect!. And sure enough, when fighting the ablative never went off. To use the Level 10 ability:
I had that problem at first and what I do is rt click the cloak and the /use2. Goes of every time. The first ability is used in normal fashion on the qbar. Dec 24

Respawn seems to be on 6 to 8 hour timer.
However, A CSR confirmed today that it is possible for SOM to take 36 hours to spawn. Mar 22 2004

You can no longer kill the sphinxes outside of the circle.
Best way weve found since last patch to complete this step, is very similar to the old way. First off, have activater disband from group, start encounter, and let him die near edge of arena. Wait for all the aggro to cease, rez, and then proceed to step into arena and pull one of the mob. DO NOT let mob go outside arena or it will go into "godmode." (light shield around it, cant hit it, kills everyone in only a few hits) As soon as mob is dead, rest/rez/heal up for next sphinx. Have the activater leave the group again, and pick up cloak, and then get aggro. Rez, buff up, then kill another solo, INSIDE arena. Once that one is down, rest/rez up, have original activater grab cloak again, and just get aggro in arena from last mob. We did this with about 7 people with only an arsmen and no main healer. Necros can be highly wanted for this for grabbing aggro once in a while. (P.S., first time we beat all 3 mobs, wrong person picked up cloak and couldn't finish quest until a CSR helped, so make sure activater grabs cloak all 3 times.) May 19 2004

Shades of Mist - The aged statue will no longer despawn when the Long Black Cloak is accidentally left to decay on the ground.
When the Long Black Cloak is removed from the appropriate area, the criosphinxes will no longer cease combat, they will continue to pursue players normally. Additionally, if a criosphinx has stolen the cloak from a player and then chases a player outside of the appropriate area, the cloak will return to the aged statue. (1.69 patch, Apr 14 2004)
Destroying the Long Black Cloak correctly returns the cloak to the Aged Statue. (patch notes v1.70 Jun 22 2004)
Tips:
Done with a 50 Mana Chanter, 50 Mana Ment, and 48 Druid Buffbot. This is not very hard and can be done moderately easily, especially with FoP. Buff up and make sure all 3 toons are inside the circle then have the ment run in and grab the cloak, once he has it run him back near to where the chanter and druid bot are. This is simpler if u have an underhill ally out because if he heals once the sphinx will all run towards him but not attack. Once the ment is dead, have your pet attack 2 of the sphinx and immediatly rez the ment with the bot. Sometimes (we can not figure out why) the sphinx will aggro on rezzer, if this happens there is nothing to do but die and try again. Once the ment is up, have him MCL and hot the pet right away, ur pet will probably have low health but he should be stable enough to add the third sphinx. Once this is done it is an easy ride, Just keep the ment hotting and heal with druid when needed. Keep Focus up as much as you can with chanter and use ur power pots whenever u can, eventually they will die and u can get cloak, plain and simple. The only problem we ran into was if on sphinx dies early, the first sphinx to die will always drop the cloak and u cannot pick it up without aggroing the other sphinx. If it is left there too long it will go back to statue and u will be screwed. If this happens and the cloak is about to go to statue try running in with ment and picking it up, the sphinx will kill him, but sometimes u can re aggro them on pet and rez with the bot. Jun 13 2004

Did Shade of Mist, normal method, With 2 warriors (50sheild/50axe) 2 shammy bots, 1 with FOHealing and NO Feild of Power! May 20 2004
- Eowunyth
We did this last night with 2 shammy bots (power ward + heal ward), 50 skald, 50 aug healer and 50 savage. We set up the wards inside the circle and had the 50 skald run in and talk to the guy. We let the skald die then I (50 healer) used PR on him and buffed him up imediatly. The 1st one wasnt hard at all, barely had to heal. When we pulled the 2nd, 2 criosphinx's came. We stayed alive long enuff to kill 1 of them then we died. We imediatly released and came back to finish of the last one. We set up the wards again and talked to the statue, it seemed to do nothing. So we pulled the last criosphinx and found out he was still in godmode. Took us about 20 minutes but we eventually killed it with only 5 people. Picked up the loot, walked outside the circle and got the encounter + shades of mist. May 10 2004

Drops:
The sphinxes drop TONS of 1H slashers/thrusters/maces. The thrusters have the whole polearm effect, and they're pretty neat since they're 4.4 speed (my guildmaster loves them on his thrust merc). They're ROG and only one or two of the ones that drop will be MP, but over 10 weapons WILL drop, and it's doable with one group. Nov 18
