Mercenary Tips:
You need a merc that can survive being mobbed, as a barb always fights close quarters. Life leech and damage reduction gear is a must.

The barbarian is the quintessential fighter. He is built to wade into the middle of raving packs of enemies, where he proceeds to rip them limb from limb. A "barb" is the master of the one hit kill, as once his combat mastery is combined with a high damage weapon, he becomes capable of leveling almost any creature with a single flurry of attacks.

When playing the barbarian, one should have three goals - equipping a weapon with the highest possible damage, getting equipment with life/mana leech, and maxing each resistance. Skills like iron skin will optimize barbarian defense, so equipping the best armors should be secondary to a HUGELY damaging weapon. 12% mana steal will allow a barbarian to set his special skills to left click, and his attacks will typically recharge his mana with every kill.

Usuallyy a "barb," (as they are called by b.net players), will smash most monsters in small groups or bosses with ease. However, the barb is not invincible - magical foes and extremely large packs tend to give him trouble, so he must beware, lest he find himself fried by a multi-shot lightning enchanted creature, or felled by a mob of damned. Thus, a great deal of time should be spent tracking down items that give resistance bonuses, as natural resistance, while good, cannot compensate for the hell mode penalty of -100%.

As far as character point allocation, the early levels should be spent building strength as high as possible. Jumping strait to 75 strength is not a bad idea, as it will allow a player to equip almost any gear found in normal mode. After reaching the 75-100 range in strength, a good character point distribution is 2 to strength, 1 to dexterity, 2 to vitality. Energy is never a problem once a barb secures mana stealing equipment.

When searching for weapons, use three chipped gems + any magical colossus sword in your cube. This has a chance to eventually create a three socket sword with the cruel suffix. You are then free to add increased attack speed or damage using runes and jewels. The rich player can try to trade for weapons like the mighty Grandfather, although Bul Kathos weapon is also viable. Berserk will handle physically immune monsters, so searching for a 6 socket alternative weapon is unnecessary.
