READ BEFORE CONTINUING! * ************************************************** First off, this document will contain a lot of . And major ones at that. You have been warned. Second, this FAQ covers FF2 ONLY. FF1 will not be covered in the least. I plan on making one later, but I like FF2 better. ^_^ Last, if you have an email to send me, please be sure to put "FF2 Walkthrough" or something like that in the Subject line. I'll probably end up deleting it otherwise. And please include your screen name so I know who to give credit to, should I place new information inside. :) [ZRZJZAZCZKZSZOZNZ] ============================================================ : Font Spacing Check ------------ Check please if the numbers and dots align. If not, then switch to a monospaced font to properly view this document. 1234567890 .......... The default Wordpad font (Courier New) is most suited for viewing this FAQ. However, I used Notepad, with the same font, while writing this FAQ. There's really no significant difference between the two when viewing this FAQ. ============================================================ : Keyword System ------------ A good friend of mine, Arctic (best known for his sweet FF7 FAQ), used the Keyword System in Version 1.1 of his FAQ and has used it ever since. Its sole purpose is to allow you (the user) to search for anything in this FAQ with the greatest of ease. [GRGJGAGCGKGSGOGNG] Utilizing the Find function (Ctrl+F) that can be used in both Notepad and Wordpad, the keyword system is used at the start of each chapter and subsection. When reading the Table of Contents, you'll see the following by a certain section: [Keyword] Press Ctrl+F and type in the following: ^[Keyword] And you'll immediately be brought to the corresponding section after you press Enter. Make sure you don't drop the ^ or you'll end up back in the Table of Contents. ============================================================ : Anti-Plagiarism Format ------------ It seems that nowdays you can take a quote from any magazine, stick it into any search engine and find the same article written by 4-5 different people. As far as I know, nobody as of yet has implemented any anti-plagiarism content in their FAQs or Walkthroughs. I've decided to change that. If you see something that looks completely out of place, it's probably an anti- plagiarism tag. Given, although the system I'm putting in this FAQ/Walk isn't foolproof, it's my own attempt at anti-plagiarism. I'm pretty sure someone will crack the code, but I'm planning on making it harder than hell for them to do so. ============================================================ : TABLE OF CONTENTS ------------ -> Update history [UPDT] -> Story [STOR] -> FF2 Mechanics [MECH] -> Skills & Attributes [MSKL] -> White/Black Magic [MMGC] -> Character Status [MCST] -> Menu Screen [MMNS] -> Items [MITM] -> Formation [MFRM] -> Key Term System [KYTM] -> Characters [CHAR] -> Firion [CFRN] -> Maria [CMRA] -> Guy [CGUY] -> Leon [CLEO] -> Minwu [CMIN] -> Josef [CJSF] -> Gordon [CGRD] -> Leila [CLEI] -> Ricard [CRIC] -> Walkthrough -> Travel Notes [WNOTE] (for any new FF players) -> Escape from Fynn [ESC1] -> Infiltration! The emperor of Palamecia has called forth monsters from the underworld and begun his campaign for world conquest. A rebel army arose in the kingdom of Fynn to thwart the emperor's plans. But the rebels' castle fell to an all- out assault by the empire. Left with little choice, the rebels withdrew to the remote town of Altair. Four youths from Fynn also found themselves fleeing the imperial forces. They had lost their parents at the hands of the empire. But their escape wasn't over. What starts as a simple rebellion against an evil empire turns into something more. Three youths will completely turn the tide of a war and defeat the Empire. Or so they think. [ARSJDAFCGKHSJOJKN] ============================================================ : FF2 Mechanics ^[MECH] : ------------ ------------ Keep in mind, this section is still under construction. It'll be updated later. This section goes over the mechanics of Final Fantasy 2. Use this guide if you don't want to scroll back to the Contents section. -> FF2 Mechanics [MECH] <- (you are here) -> Skills & Attributes [MSKL] -> White/Black Magic [MMGC] -> Character Status [MCST] -> Menu Screen [MMNS] -> Items [MITM] -> Formation [MFRM] ------------ : Skills & Attributes ^[MSKL] ------------ Final Fantasy 2 has no levels at all; your characters gain skills based on how you use them in battle. For example, a character who focuses on magic use will in turn, gain skills that improve their casting abilities. STATUS: The Status Screen looks something like this: Attack Skill Lv. R.Hand 159 Hands Blood Sword Accuracy Knife L.Hand 10-27 % Sword Masamume Defense Staff Head 150 Axe Genji Helm Evasion Spear Body 5-0 % Bow Genji Armor Magic Def Shield Hands 12-87 % Genji Gloves This screen shows your character's battle statistics. It also shows their proficiency with each weapon type, as well as all equipment you have on that character. Pressing the A button will bring up the following screen: Strength 44 Spirit 56 Intelligence 22 Stamina 65 Agility 30 Magic 25 Cure 8 Teleport 2 Life 5 Blink 5 Curse 7 Protect 5 Death 6 Shell 6 Ultima 9 [ARSJDAFCGKHSJOKNL] This screen shows your character's other stats as well as spell proficiency. Characters improve their skills by using weapons or casting spells. Spells like Cure or Esuna can be used outside of battle if your character has a status effect or if you wish to replenish HP. When staying at an Inn, it costs more to replenish HP than it does MP. Use Cure outside of battle to fill up your HP as much as you can, and then pay a lower fee for the MP. Now then, I'm sure you're wondering about the attributes. Here's a list of all of them, as well as how to increase them and what they affect. Attribute How to increase What the attribute affects -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Accuracy Attack with a weapon Number and accuracy of attacks Agility Get hit by physical Chance of getting a Preemptive attacks Strike Evasion Get hit by physical Evasion of physical attacks attacks Intelligence Cast Black Magic Success rate and power of Black Magic attacks Magic Use MP in battle Max MP Magic Defense Get hit by spells or Evasion of special attacks special attacks Spirit Cast White Magic Success rate and power of White Magic attacks Stamina Lose HP in battle Max HP Strength Attacking Success rate and power of regular attacks ------------ : White and Black Magic ^[MMGC] ------------ Spells are divided into two categories: White and Black Magic. Black Magic is (mostly) attack magic whereas White Magic is (mostly) defensive and support magic. Given, there are exceptions to both types (Confuse, a Black spell, does 0 damage, but confuses the target and Ultima and Holy are both attack spells). Any person can learn any spell, but having one character cast one color of magic will allow them to become more powerful than if they cast both types equally. Try to keep your characters pure Black or pure White Magic. Here is a list of all the spells, arranged by color alignment, effect, family, and Tome price. Tomes are always the same price btw. [QRWJEARCTKYSYOUNI] Spell Families are also something you should watch. Some enemies can be harmed more by certain spell families. Fire, Ice, Lit families are self-explanatory, but some of the trickier ones (Body, Mind, etc) are listed here. If "None" is listed in the "Family" section, the spell has no inherent family. *NOTE: (F) means the spell tome must be found. Also, "temporary" status effects and "permanent" status effects are covered in the [MCST] section. Status effects can completely change your characters' abilities by hindering certain aspects of your powers. A spellcaster is ineffective when inflicted with Silence; a fighter is ineffective when inflicted with Darkness or Confusion. A list of all Status Effects is included here, along with their effects and whether the Status is Temporary or Permanent. Permanent Status Effects can only be removed with the Esuna spell; Temporary Status Effects can be removed with the Basuna spell, but lose their effect after the battle ends. Status Effect Temp / Perm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amnesia Prevents a character from casting spells Permanent Confusion Character turns on his/her party members Temporary Curse Attack and Defense drop considerably Temporary Darkness Reduces Accuracy Permanent KO Character has 0 HP and cannot partake in Permanent battle until revived; if party suffers KO, the game is over Mini Character is shrunk and reduces power of Temporary physical attacks Paralysis Paralyzes character so they cannot attack Temporary Poison Damages character after every turn and after Permanent every few steps Silence Prevents a character from casting spells Permanent Sleep Puts character to sleep so they cannot attack Temporary Stone Character has been turned to stone and cannot Permanent attack or be damaged Toad Character is turned into a toad, Accuracy is Permanent reduced, character cannot cast spells Venom Damages character after every turn Temporary ------------ : Menu Screen ^[MFRM] ------------ The Menu Screen is accessed by pressing Start (default). When you access it, you'll be able to see your characters' HP and MP. In addition, you can see your location, as well as your play time, steps taken, and Gil obtained. You'll also be able to select from the following items: Items ----- See the Items Section [MITM] for details. Magic ----- See the Magic Section [MMGC] for details. Equipment --------- Allows you to change your characters equipment: weapons and armor. Status ------ Brings you to the Status Subscreen [MCST]. Formation --------- See the Formation Secion [MFRM] for details. Key Terms --------- See the Key Terms Section [KYWD] for details. [RJJHAGCGKFSFODNS] Config ------ Allows you to either enable or disable the B Button Dash, whether to have your cursor set to Default or Memory, message speed, window color, and allows you to view the current Bestiary. Save ---- Lets you save your current progress. ------------ : Items ^[MITM] ------------ The 64-item limit in the original FF2 is no longer existant. Instead, you can hold any number of items (up to 99) and it'll only take up one slot, just like every other Final Fantasy game in existance. Shame on you SquareEnix. To sort your items, just move your cursor over the Sort option and press A. In doing so, all your items will be automatically arranged for you. If you want to manually arrange your items, you can do so by selecting the Use option. ------------ : Formation ^[MFRM] ------------ You must have one character in the front row, period. Your other three party members can either remain in the front row or switch to the back row. When placed in back, characters are unable to be hit with physical attacks, as long as there is one character in the front row that isn't KO'ed. Magic attacks hit front row and back row characters for the same amount of damage. Unless you have Shell in effect, but that's another story. [1R23JAXC56KASEOQN] Place your magic users in the back row and your fighters in the front. If you have fighter/mage hybrids (I highly recommend you do), you can solve your problems altogether and place everyone in the front row. :) ============================================================ : Key Term System ^[KYTM] : ------------ ------------ Final Fantasy 2 was the first and only game that allowed you to learn special terms and use them to activate special events. Although there are only fifteen Key Terms, it was the only game to ever have this feature. Here's a list of Key Terms available, and where you can learn them. To learn a new Term, use the Learn option when prompted. You can then ask other people about the Term and learn what they know about it or maybe even learn new Terms. Be sure you ask your teacher about the Terms they teach you. Note: Some NPC's don't let you ask about Key Terms, others do. Key Term Location -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wild Rose When you first begin the game, Hilda teaches you the password to get into any Rebel hideout. The Wild Rose is the insignia of the Kingdom of Fynn. Mythril After you infiltrate Fynn and retrieve the Ring. Return to Hilda and she'll teach you the Term. Dreadnought After you recruit Minwu into your party (right after learning Mythril), talk to Hilda again and she'll teach you Dreadnought. Airship When you first enter Poft, go into the Pub and speak to Cid. You can learn the Term from him. Sunfire After the Dreadnought attacks, speak to Cid in Poft and learn about the power source of Airships, the Sunfire. Goddess's Bell After the Dreadnought attacks, speak to the King, who's bedded up in Altair and ask him about the Sunfire to learn about the Goddess's Bell. Dragoons Once you destroy the Dreadnought, speak to Gordon after he assumes control of the throne and he'll talk about the mighty Dragoons. Wyverns Ask Gordon about the Dragoons and you'll be able to learn about the Wyverns that the Dragoons rode into battle. Mysidia After you free Fynn (much later in the game), talk to Hilda and learn about the land of mages, Mysidia. Mask Ask Hilda about Mysidia and she'll tell you about two Masks that are needed to break the seal in Mysidia. Ekmet Teloess Ask Hilda about the Mask and she'll tell you the password to open the door that holds the White Mask. Ultima Tome Talk to Gordon about Mysidia and he'll tell you about the ultimate White Magic, Ultima. Cyclone After obtaining the Ultima Tome, talk to Gordon and he'll tell you about the Cyclone that's wreaked Altair and is heading for Fynn. [IREJSADFCFKHSNOJN] Palamecia Hilda will tell you about the only place the new Emperor could be hiding: Palamecia. Jade Passage After Ricard leaves the party, talk to Hilda and she'll teach you this Key Term. ============================================================ : Characters ^[CHAR] : ------------ ------------ Three characters that will always be with you are Firion, Maria, and Guy. Your fourth character will change at times; sometimes you won't have a fourth character at all. Each fourth member of your party will already be adept in some form of fighting or magic. It's your call whether you want to exploit their current abilities or teach them some new ones. Be warned though, your fourth character will leave the party eventually, taking with them any new tricks you've taught them. Oh, and be sure to unequip their armor before they leave. You'll never see it again otherwise. ------------ : Firion ^[CFRN] ------------ Firion starts with the most balanced stats in the party. His physical strength is matched by his magical knowledge. It's your call on whether you want him to be a mage or a fighter. STARTING STATS: HP MP ATTACK ACCURACY DEFENSE EVASION MAGIC DEFENSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 30 10 10 1-70% 2 1-14% 1-22% STRENGTH STAMINA SPIRIT AGILITY INTELLIGENCE MAGIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 10 10 10 10 5 HANDS KNIFE SWORD STAFF AXE SPEAR BOW SHIELD ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 STARTING EQUIPMENT: Broadsword, Buckler, Leather Armor STARTING ITEMS: None STARTING SPELLS: None I made Firion into a White Mage/Fighter type character. I recommend taking off the shield he starts with and putting another sword in his left hand. Teaching him Cure (among other White Magic) is a good move, depending on what you want to do with Maria. If you make Maria a Black Mage, make Firion a White Mage, and vice-versa. However, Maria's better suited for Black Magic, so I suggest making Firion a White Mage. As for weapons, if you find yourself no longer leveling up in Swords, stick a Spear or an Axe on him instead. [WRAJSADCWKASSODN] Teach Firion spells such as Protect, Shell and Blink. Sap is a must-have for long journeys. You can give Guy all the status-inflicting spells. Note, if you plan on making Maria your White Mage instead of Firion, just swap their Spell recommendations. ------------ : Maria ^[CMRA] ------------ Starting out with a Bow and a head start in Intelligence, Maria is most convinient as a Black Mage. Keep her casting spells as much as possible to skyrocket her spell abilities. STARTING STATS: HP MP ATTACK ACCURACY DEFENSE EVASION MAGIC DEFENSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20 10 3 1-55% 1 1-10% 1-20% STRENGTH STAMINA SPIRIT AGILITY INTELLIGENCE MAGIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5 5 10 15 15 5 HANDS KNIFE SWORD STAFF AXE SPEAR BOW SHIELD ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 STARTING EQUIPMENT: Bow, Clothes STARTING ITEMS: None STARTING SPELLS: None Screw the back line, put Maria up front so she can get hit and gain HP. Seriously. Having JUST Firion and Guy as your front line will allow their HP to go up, but it'll also leave Maria to be hit by nothing but spells. Which is okay, until you get spells that do ungodly amounts of damage later on in the game. Put her up front; none of the starting enemies can kill her that easily anyways. Teach Maria some elemential spells. Fire, Blizzard, Thunder (you get a Fire Tome later on in the game, but I suggest buying one right off) should be her biggest three spells. Teach ALL your Black Magic (found in the [MMGC] section) to Maria to reap some sexy results. Keep the Bow on Maria to begin with, so you can stick her in the back row and still allow her to attack later on in the game. Also, upping her Spear and/or Unarmed skills is a good idea. ------------ : Guy ^[CGUY] ------------ Guy doesn't speak much; then again, he doesn't have to. His starting attack rating is quite literally light years ahead of Firion's. Keep him attacking and have him learn a few spells just so his Magic ratings don't totally go to waste. STARTING STATS: HP MP ATTACK ACCURACY DEFENSE EVASION MAGIC DEFENSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 40 10 17 1-70% 2 1-1% 1-25% STRENGTH STAMINA SPIRIT AGILITY INTELLIGENCE MAGIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 15 15 15 5 10 5 HANDS KNIFE SWORD STAFF AXE SPEAR BOW SHIELD ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 STARTING EQUIPMENT: Axe, Leather Armor STARTING ITEMS: None STARTING SPELLS: None Guy starts out with an Axe; keep it on him. Put another one on him as soon as you can. I also had Guy adept in swords. Guy should be a secondary White Mage. I had him learning White Magic spells that inflict status effects, such as Silence, Curse, and Fear. I also taught Guy Basuna and Esuna to cure status effects. ------------ : Leon ^[CLEO] ------------ Leon joins the party late in the game. However, he joins just in time to take part in the final battle. STARTING STATS: HP MP ATTACK ACCURACY DEFENSE EVASION MAGIC DEFENSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1098 5 158 9-99% 85 3-0% 3-69% STRENGTH STAMINA SPIRIT AGILITY INTELLIGENCE MAGIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 53 46 16 45 36 32 HANDS KNIFE SWORD STAFF AXE SPEAR BOW SHIELD ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 5 8 6 9 7 4 3 STARTING EQUIPMENT: Flame Sword, Poison Axe, Diamond Helm, Diamond Armor, Diamond Gloves STARTING ITEMS: None STARTING SPELLS: None Leon starts with crap for MP, but he has a decent Intelligence rating, making him ideal as a second Black Mage. Also, Leon's equipment is pretty nice, but feel free to have him wield anything in your arsenal. [RQJZAXCCKBSHOFND] Teach Leon any spell that Maria doesn't know. Be warned, he'll start every spell at level 1. ------------ : Minwu ^[CMWU] ------------ Minwu is the official White Wizard of Fynn and his magic list shows just that. In addition to having a plethora of useful White Magic spells, Minwu gives you the Canoe, a super-useful item used for traversing waterways. STARTING STATS: HP MP ATTACK ACCURACY DEFENSE EVASION MAGIC DEFENSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 175 103 9 1-80% 5 1-17% 2-50% STRENGTH STAMINA SPIRIT AGILITY INTELLIGENCE MAGIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 20 48 20 16 40 HANDS KNIFE SWORD STAFF AXE SPEAR BOW SHIELD ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 STARTING EQUIPMENT: Staff, Copper Cuirass STARTING ITEMS: Canoe STARTING SPELLS: Barrier 7, Basuna 6, Blink 5, Cure 7, Dispel 3, Esuna 3, Fear 3, Fog 6, Life 7, Protect 5, Sap 4, Shell 6, Swap 3, Teleport 1, Wall 5 Keep Minwu's staff and conserve his MP. It gets expensive to heal his MP back on a regular basis. ------------ : Josef ^[CJSF] ------------ Josef is humble yet powerful and his Strength rating shows just how powerful he is. Josef doesn't use weapons, but instead opts to use his bare hands to whoop ass. Just slap on some armor and let Josef go to town. STARTING STATS: HP MP ATTACK ACCURACY DEFENSE EVASION MAGIC DEFENSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 235 5 28 2-99% 4 2-13% 2-32% STRENGTH STAMINA SPIRIT AGILITY INTELLIGENCE MAGIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 24 24 10 24 10 10 HANDS KNIFE SWORD STAFF AXE SPEAR BOW SHIELD ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 STARTING EQUIPMENT: Leather Cap, Leather Armor, Leather Gloves STARTING ITEMS: None STARTING SPELLS: None Josef is totally useless in the back row. He's also not in your party long enough to become an effective magic user, nor do his ratings allow for him to use magic that well anyways. Don't spend Gil on spells for Josef. ------------ : Gordon ^[CGRD] ------------ Gordon joins your party with some of the worst stats in the game. Seriously, take a look: STARTING STATS: HP MP ATTACK ACCURACY DEFENSE EVASION MAGIC DEFENSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 128 15 16 2-77% 8 1-18% 1-37% STRENGTH STAMINA SPIRIT AGILITY INTELLIGENCE MAGIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22 22 22 22 22 22 HANDS KNIFE SWORD STAFF AXE SPEAR BOW SHIELD ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 STARTING EQUIPMENT: Spear, Bronze Shield, Bronze Armor, Bronze Gloves STARTING ITEMS: None STARTING SPELLS: None Gordon starts the party with sub-par stats and sub-par equipment. If you have an extra Mythril Spear lying around, give it to him. However, he can weild all weapons just as badly. :) Also, his armor is hardly decent when compared to the best armor available when he joins the party. Thankfully, he learns fast and he doesn't stay around for long. Be sure to take off any good equipment you put on him before he leaves. ------------ : Leila ^[CLEI] ------------ Leila might not look like it, but she can whoop some ass. In addition, her Thunder 4 spell comes in handy when you get her, as you obtain the Ship soon after and can be attacked by sea monsters. Although some of her stats are sub- par, others more than make up for it. STARTING STATS: HP MP ATTACK ACCURACY DEFENSE EVASION MAGIC DEFENSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 129 35 26 5-68% 21 2-41% 2-44% STRENGTH STAMINA SPIRIT AGILITY INTELLIGENCE MAGIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18 18 10 36 16 10 HANDS KNIFE SWORD STAFF AXE SPEAR BOW SHIELD ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 5 5 1 1 1 4 1 STARTING EQUIPMENT: Dagger, Longsword, Gold Hairpin, Silver Cuirass STARTING ITEMS: None STARTING SPELLS: Thunder 4 As you can see, Leila's weaponry sucks. Give her some better swords and daggers and let her loose. She doesn't disappoint, as her deftness with each type of weapon is very high compared to most other characters. [URYJRTARCFKHSJOKNB] ------------ : Ricard ^[CRIC] ------------ Ricard is the last surviving Dragoon soldier, and he yearns to fight once more. He comes with some powerful attack stats and some powerful weaponry to compliment. STARTING STATS: HP MP ATTACK ACCURACY DEFENSE EVASION MAGIC DEFENSE ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 549 5 69 8-99% 43 2-21% 2-48% STRENGTH STAMINA SPIRIT AGILITY INTELLIGENCE MAGIC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 60 32 26 26 16 5 HANDS KNIFE SWORD STAFF AXE SPEAR BOW SHIELD ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 5 5 1 1 1 4 1 STARTING EQUIPMENT: Flame Lance, Golden Shield, Giant's Helm, Knight's Armor, Giant's Gloves STARTING ITEMS: None STARTING SPELLS: None Although Ricard does have a decent Spirit rating, his Magic rating makes him an undesirable magician. Keep the equipment he has (or upgrade it if you have better) and keep him away from the spellcasting. Besides, all his attack stats are through the roof. ============================================================ : Walkthrough - Travel Notes ^[WNOTE] : ------------ ------------ In case you're new to the Final Fantasy world, there are a few things you should ALWAYS be aware of. As a matter of fact, I'm so confident in these notes, I'm going to say they apply to just about every Final Fantasy game in existance. 1. SAVE!!!!! I cannot emphasize this enough. Save early, safe often, SAVE BEFORE ENTERING A BIG BATTLE. Through the process of saving, you'll save yourself a LOT of headache and a LOT of lost time. Whether you save at a Save Sphere (FFX) or at an Inn (FF1), you should save whenever you can. In Dawn of Souls, you can save wherever the hell you want, so don't worry about getting back to the Inn. Trust me on this, even the best FF players can mess up every once in a while and lose their entire party. 2. TALK TO EVERYONE!! They'll (usually) give you clues as to where you should go, who to talk to, etc. Plus, some of them even blurt out funny quotes, like the infamous "This guy are sick", or perhaps they'll provide clues to hidden treasures. Who knows? All you gotta do is talk to them. 3. LEVEL UP!! Unless you're doing a low-level game, you (probably) want to make your characters more powerful than the guys they fight. It's not smart to take your 55 HP characters into a battle against an enemy with 1,000,000 HP and an attack of 30,000, and it doesn't matter how high your evasion is. To do this, just fight the majority of your battles instead of running away all the time. If you find yourself getting your ass handed to you each and every battle, then yeah, you might want to backtrack and beat up your own characters if you're really getting your ass kicked. 4. CURE IS YOUR BEST FRIEND! Right next to Ultima, Knights of the Round, etc. More often than not, you'll end up using Cure more often than every other spell combined, unless you're doing a special game type, but that's totally besides the point. Buy your Cure spell(s) early. [YRTJEASECKXSXOVNNB] ============================================================ : Walkthrough - Escaping Fynn ^[ESC1] : ------------ ------------ Your first battle really isn't a battle. I highly recommend you invest most of your 400 Gil into spells. Particularly the Cure Tome for at least 1 teammate. I found the Fire Tome useful, but you get one later in the game (Semmit Falls), but I bought it anyways. You'll eventually want to obtain and build up all three elemential spells, as they become invaluable against elemential enemies later on. It's possible for a Blizzard 2 to do more damage than a Fire 7, if the enemy is weak against Blizzard and has a high Magic Defense. [ARSJDAFCGKGSHOJNK] BE SURE YOU LEARN SPELLS BEFORE GOING INTO BATTLE. Using a Tome inside of battle is powerful, but an extremely spendy way of defeating enemies. [QRWJEARCTKTYSYOUNU] To recieve the two new Key Terms, talk to Hilda after Minwu joins up. She'll tell you about the Dreadnought being built in Bafsk. He's probably got more spells than the rest of your team combined. Use his spells when you're in a pinch, since restoring his MP can be costly when staying at the Inn. ------------ : Paloom ^[MYTH3] ------------ Paloom is a port city. The first person you'll see inside Paloom runs the ferry service between Poft and Paloom. This saves you the long walk between the two, but the time spent fighting battles might help your characters level up. Also, the ferry must be outside the place you are travelling FROM. Be sure you have plenty of items along to heal your HP, just in case your MP runs dry. Lastly, the Teleport spell will bring your party straight out of any dungeon or cave. This is extremely useful when you're very low on both HP and MP. Just go to any Inn and heal up. Keep in mind that you'll have to start the dungeon from the beginning, but all the chests you've opened will stay opened, so skip over them to save yourself time. = B1 = Upon entering Semitt Falls, head west and make note of the blue block that sits inconspicuously. You'll use it later when Josef enters the party. Continue on west until the path splits. Head west and then north to pick up 200 Gil. Go back and head south until the path splits to an east-west split. Head east and pick up 400 Gil, then head all the way west to go downstairs. = B2 = Get out of the water and head north, and then a bit west to pick up some Eye Drops. Head east from the Eye Drops (you'll have to backtrack a bit) and you'll go through some water and pick up a Potion. Go south and you'll be able to either go back upstairs or head down a righthand path. Take the righthand path and keep going straight. Pick up the Hi-Potion and stop at the four doors. The left-most door leads downstairs. The other three lead into dead rooms that contain nothing more except a lot of random battles. Stay away unless you want to up your stats. [ORIJUAYCTKRSROSN] = B3 = You'll end up heading down a set of stairs before you turn up at the north- eastern corner of B3. Go straight south and you can score 200 Gil. Go back north and then west, ignoring the east door (it's a random battle room) and go across the southern bridge for 250 Gil. You don't have to go farther than the first bridge, as there's nothing below it anyways. Go back north and west until you reach three doors, and you should take the left-most door once again to continue on. = B4 = You'll come upon the prisoners that were taken from Salamand. Included in the mix is Paul, the greatest thief in the world! Also included is Nelly, Josef's missing daughter. Talking to Paul will allow the prisoners to escape, and open up the way to the next floor down. Take the stairs at the eastern part of the room to continue. If you use the Teleport spell, you can go back to Salamand and everyone there will be singing you exuberant praises. You'll also be able to talk to Josef, who will finally open his damn pie hole and tell you more about the location of Mythril, as well as give you an update about the Dreadnought. = B5 = Take the bridge directly north and pick up the Fire Tome. Then go back (don't backtrack across the bridge) and head east across a small bridge and stop in the crossroads. From there, go north and follow the path around until you find a stairway going down. = B6 = The path you're supposed to take isn't even across the bridge, it's above the entrance, using the left-hand door. Talk to Gordon after he's assumed the throne and learn Dragoons. Ask him about that and you'll learn about the legendary Wyverns they rode into battle. The Dreadnought might have left your party drained, but there's plenty of reason to celebrate: the Gil you make selling off unnecessary items will allow you to buy more expensive items you require, like Tents, Cottages or the invaluable Ethers. On another note, if you follow the above strategy, you have to WALK all the way back if you take the Chocobo route. Not a problem if you have a few Cottages at your disposal. On the other hand, it can be difficult fighting monster after monster. Here's an alternate route: Use the ship and head out towards Deist. However, instead of exiting the small channel where you exit the mainland and head towards Deist, disembark your ship at the lower part of it and start walking southeast. You'll start about halfway through the desert. Although it does force you to walk some, it allows you for a much easier escape route; the monsters at sea are much easier than the land monsters you'll encounter around Palamecia. ------------ : Palamecia Area ^[FYNN4] ------------ This section covers the Palamecia area monsters. Hilda's in the far right one, some monsters (if you want to complete your Bestiary) are in the left two. Take her, backtrack, and head up another set of stairs just below from where you entered. One thing I should note is that if you want to get into the other two rooms, you have to take the secret passages on the sides, since the doors remain locked. = F1 = This area is where you fought the Behemoth. Simply head around and straight out the front door. To get back to Altair, it depends on what route you took. If you brought the ship, head back to it and sail home. If you took the Chocobo, start walking north. Eventually, you'll come across the Chocobo Forest again where you can capture another Chocobo and ride it back to Poft. Whichever way you took is fine, but I'll see you back at Altair. ------------ : Altair ^[FYNN6] ------------ Upon returning to Altair, you'll soon discover that almost everyone is gone. The only people that remain are all the shopkeepers and the man who informs you of the makeshift camp that the Rebel forces have set up. Ask her about Mask and you'll learn the password to open the door, Ekmet Teloess. Unfortunately, Hilda doesn't know where the door is. Talk to Gordon and ask him what he knows about Mysidia; he'll tell you that the Ultima Tome resides there. He doesn't know the location of the door either, but he says Paul might. Now then, before you leave the castle, go back to where you found Leila on F1. You're going to get some treasure. :) = F1 = From the starting point where you found Leila, go east to pick up 3000 Gil. Head west to fight yet another Monster-in-a-Box and pick up the almighty Aura Tome (one of the better spells in the game, when powered up). From where you obtain the Tome, go into the southern room and slip through the south-western wall; the actual hole in the wall is one step above the bottom. Now it is sealed away in Mysidia, and the time has come to bring it back! Go to Mysidia and get the ultimate equalizer: Ultima! But first, you need the two Masks to unlock the seal, and one of them is in Castle Fynn's basement. NOTE: At this point of the game, you'll find more and more walls that you can walk through. These "fake walls" can be found in many places. I'll point them out to you, but the method I use might be confusing for some. When I say you should "hug the left wall" or something, that means press left against the wall. Then take one step up or down (I'll tell you which direction in its respective section) and then press left again. From Fynn, you can reach Mysidia on land. Just head southeast from Fynn until you reach a small patch of land that is just east of the Mysidian Tower (the small island surrounded by mountains if you use the World Map). Just head south from there and you'll cross a small body of water and eventually hit Mysidia. If you left your ship near Altair, I personally found that to be the easiest mode of transportation. Just hop on the ship and head southeast from Altair, through the small channel and then head southeast until you reach a forest and some mountains. Exit your ship and head southeast from there until you find Mysidia. If you need help, use the World Map. Mysidia is really easy to miss. It's tucked away right next to the mountains, so keep your eyes peeled for it, and don't hesitate for a second to use the World Map (hold B and Select in case you forgot) if you feel lost. Hug the north end of the southern mountains and you'll eventually hit it. Also, most of the doors here lead to Monster Rooms. Skip them unless otherwise noted. One last thing: hidden walls will become more abundant now that you're later in the game. I'll inform you of all the ones I know, but remember to check all the world over for more. [URDJEASCFKGSHOJNK] = B1 = From the entrance, head west and up the stairs. Head west, skipping the first path south and taking the second one south to find a Gold Hairpin. Backtrack and take the first path south, then the first path east. Take the stairs down to get the Black Garb. Backtrack and go south (instead of where you went east) and go all the way south. Once you hit the bottom of the room, go west and down the stairs. Follow the path to reach the Doppelganger. Use the Black Mask here to make it disappear. Take the stairs down. Keep in mind that you won't be able to place the Black Mask if you haven't used the White Mask in Mysidia. = B2 = Take the set of stairs all the way north and head east, taking the first set of stairs south to get a Power Staff. Go back up the stairs and keep heading east until you hit the wall. Once you hit the eastern wall, start going south, one step at a time. If you press the Right directional button after each step, you'll eventually slip through an invisible wall, where you can grab the Flame Lance. After getting the Lance, head back all the way west. ALL THE WAY WEST (including the small jag to the north you'll take). Instead of taking the set of stairs down, head back east a few steps and take the path down instead. Follow the path west and then down the stairs to reach the doorway to the next level down. = B3 = Take the stairs up (the ones that reside to the left of where you enter) and head west, then south, then west again. Hug the wall north and keep trying to continue going west. You'll eventually slip through the wall where you can claim the Ice Bow. Backtrack so that you're where you started. From the stairs that lead up, go east and north, and then east again. Go south and east and south again to find a set of stairs that leads down (not to another floor, but down to the lower level). Fight the Monster-in-a-Box to claim the Ogre Eater. Continue west (skipping the first door) and around to reach the next floor down. = B4 = This floor is long and annoying. Head all the way to the southwestern corner, then head east and up the stairs. Follow the narrow path around until you reach some stairs down. Pick up the Potion, then head a little bit southwest to see three doors. Take the middle one to retrieve a Bell of Silence, a Phoenix Down and a Gold Needle. Head all the way to the southeast and head down to the next floor. = B5 = There's a Drain Tome that's guarded by a Monster-in-a-Box to the east of the entrance. From there, head all the way south and east to reach a set of up stairs. Go up the eastern-most side and start hugging the left wall. You'll slip through the wall where you can claim a Mini Tome, 2 Hi-Potions, Ether, and a Potion. Slip back through the wall and head north and then west. Go south and you'll eventually reach another stairway, which will eventually lead you to a door. Inside, you'll find the Crystal Rod, a Drain Tome and an Osmose Tome. Follow the path (it widens out as you go) to find another set of stairs. = F3 = Follow the path. That's about it. However, be careful when you go through the lava, as it reduces your HP. Stay healed. Use the door on the left and you'll reappear on a different part of this same floor. There are lava-falls (as opposed to waterfalls) that you can't go up. However, there is a set of stairs that lead up. From where you enter, go all the way around and to the right (skipping the stairs for now) to find a Flame Sword. [RKJLAHCHGKGSFODN] When you actually face off against the Emperor, he isn't alone. You'll face the Emperor, 2 Royal Guards and 1 Wood Golem. Use a Fire spell to kill off the Wood Golem and have your other characters attack the Royal Guards behind it. Once the Wood Golem is down, concentrate the bulk of your attacks on the Emperor himself and have one or two characters finish off the Royal Guards. The Emperor will try to slow down your team, and his other spells can hit hard. It seems that Leon, the Dark Knight, has declared himself as the new Emperor of Palamecia. When you regain control, talk to Hilda to learn about Palamecia, the headquarters of the Empire. Talk to Gordon and ask him about it to learn that Paul might know how to get in. If you go talk to Paul, you can see Cid in Paul's house. It seems that the Cyclone did a number on Cid, but his ship made it out without a scratch. Cid's final wish is to give you his most prized possession, his Airship. After Cid passes on, ask Paul about Palamecia and he'll tell you the only way to get in is via the skies. If there was a time to use Cid's Airship, this is it! Head on over to Poft to pick it up. Lead them back to the path of glory as they traverse through the bowels of Hell. ============================================================ : Soul of Rebirth - The Unknown Cave ^[CAVE0] : ------------ ------------ KEEP IN MIND MINWU STARTS WITH THE SAME EQUIPMENT YOU LEFT HIM WITH. IF HE HAS NOTHING EQUIPPED, YOU'RE SCREWED, ALMOST. Also, don't go into any doors unless noted. They all lead to Monster Rooms. The scene starts with Minwu giving up his life in the Mysidian Tower. He wakes up alone, wondering why he isn't dead. He enters the cavern to find Gordon fighting by himself. Minwu joins him to defeat the enemy. ======================================================= : Soul of Rebirth - Black Knight : :-----------------------------------------------------: : Rank 6/7 : Weakness : : HP 1140 : None : : MP 0 : : : ATK 30 : Resistance : : ACC 3-80 : None : : DEF 20 : : : EVA 1-70 : Absorbs : : M-DEF 5-40 : None : : Gil 2250-3000 : : : : Treasure Won : : : Diamond Shield : : : Yoichi's Bow : : : Hi-Potion : : : Sun Blade : : : : ======================================================= ======================================================= : Soul of Rebirth - Sergeant : :-----------------------------------------------------: : Rank 3/7 : Weakness : : HP 420 : None : : MP 10 : : : ATK 35 : Resistance : : ACC 2-70 : None : : DEF 25 : : : EVA 1-30 : Absorbs : : M-DEF 3-50 : None : : Gil 150-300 : : : : Treasure Won : : : Mythril Helm : : : Mythril Armor : : : Mythril Axe : : : Mythril Bow : : : : ======================================================= The Black Knight has been dumbed down. A lot. Take out the Sergeants first, and then go after the Black Knight. Treat this like a full-fledged boss battle; cast Protect and Blink, both of which Minwu has (or should have). This is especially true if you left Minwu unequipped (like I did my first time around). Either way, the Sergeants are easier to take out than the Black Knight, so go after them first. After defeating the enemies, you find out that it is not Gordon who you saved, but instead it is Scott, Gordon's older brother. It is confirmed that both Minwu and Scott are indeed dead. So head out and explore this odd cave. The easiest one is the Soul Eater, which should give you little to no trouble, even if you have no upgrades on your stats or weapons. If there's anywhere you want to induce self-leveling, the fight to do it in would be against a Soul Eater or a Sea Serpent, both of which have pretty insignificant attacks. Hell, you should probably treat EVERY battle like a boss battle, especially if you left Minwu unequipped. Also, you should spread out Scott's armor if you want to keep Minwu somewhat safe. = B1 = From where Scott joins up, head east (around the wall) to find an Elixer. Start going back to where you entered this area (backtrack on the path Minwu took to make it easier). When you're halfway into the water, go all the way west, past the doors, to pick up a Mythril Axe. If you go back to where you met with Scott, and then go west from there, you'll find a door which leads down to the next level. = B2 = From where you enter, go north (follow the path to your left) and you'll see another familiar face: Josef. Get close to him to activate a boss battle with his old nemesis: Borghen. Only this time, Borghen's in a zombie form. ======================================================= : Soul of Rebirth - Zombie Borghen : :-----------------------------------------------------: : Rank 7/7 : Weakness : : HP 2500 : Fire : : MP 370 : : : ATK 30 : Resistance : : ACC 3-95 : Ice, Mind, Body : : DEF 5 : : : EVA 1-60 : Absorbs : : M-DEF 10-100 : Death : : Gil 3000 : : : : Treasure Won : : : None : : : : ======================================================= Josef joins your party for this battle, so keep that in mind. Zombie Borghen has been watered down a lot since the last time you met him. His ATK is down 90 points, and his DEF is down by 115 points. Even so, he's still a formidable foe. Use Minwu's Protect and Blink to increase your (probably) low levels. Scott starts with Fire 4, so use that. Josef works best when he's not equipped with a weapon, so just have him attack. After you have Protect and Blink in place, start healing everyone with Minwu's Cure. Zombie Borghen will go down soon enough. Josef stays with the party after your battle is over. Go north from where you fought Zombie Borghen to get the Thief's Gloves. Head west and slightly south to recieve a Hellfire. Go southeast from there to pick up the Ancient Sword. From the Ancient Sword, go all the way west (around the north wall), and then go all the way north to head down. = B3 = Say, this path looks awfully familiar. Follow the stairs down twice, and then across the water. Follow the stairs up twice, then down the next two sets of stairs down. The next set of stairs up leads to a Silver Cuirass. Backtrack down the stairs and across the water, then down the stairs. If you go west, you will see a waterfall. If you remember the real waterfall, you remember the spell merchant that's inside. Go talk to him. = B4 = Go north and slightly west to find a Hi-Potion. Keep going north until you hit the wall, then head west to find a door. Enter it and get a Golden Shield, some Eye Drops, and a Demon Spear. Head out the door, then go west to find an Aura Tome. Go straight south and enter the door to continue. = B5 = Follow the path until you pick up an Ether. As far as I can tell, you can completely skip the Roundworm battle and move on. However, since Ricard is far more powerful than any of your current characters, I'd highly suggest talking to the Roundworm and activating a battle. ======================================================= : Soul of Rebirth - Roundworm : :-----------------------------------------------------: : Rank 7/7 : Weakness : : HP 2000 : None : : MP 0 : : : ATK 25 : Resistance : : ACC 4-95 : None : : DEF 10 : : : EVA 1-10 : Absorbs : : M-DEF 4-50 : None : : Gil 2250-3000 : : : : Treasure Won : : : None : : : : ======================================================= With Ricard on the team, the Roundworm should prove to be little to no trouble. Continue on the path to find a Protect Ring, and another Hi-Potion. Continue on to find a portal that leads into: ============================================================ : Soul of Rebirth - Machanon ^[MACH0] : ------------ ------------ Machanon could correctly be called "City of the Dead". If you left ANY of your characters naked, now is the time to put some decent armor on them. The weapons you found (or should've found) in The Unknown Cave should work for now. The various portals around Machanon lead to all the corners of ... whatever this palce is. After you purchase the best armor you can afford, you still won't stand much of a chance against the enemies here. Go back into The Unknown Cave and find some weak enemies, then level up your characters until they're battle-ready. You'll also want to convert all your fighters into hybrid fighters/mages, and turn Minwu into an experienced fighter. Here's what I had my guys level up in. Keep in mind, you're free to do as you wish, but here's an outline if you wish to follow it. (btw, I love using the original FF1 class names ^_^) Minwu: Fighter/White Mage. Axe/Sword/Mace/Staff (take your pick) + Shield. Scott: Fighter/Black Mage. Sword + Shield. Josef: Monk/White Mage. Unarmed, no shield (you could put one on for extra defense if you like). Ricard: Fighter/Black Mage. Lance/Sword + Shield For White Magic spells, Cure is a must have, as is Life. I consider Blink, Protect, Shell, and Esuna to also be must-haves. Holy is a great spell to own, as is Teleport. Barrier isn't as useful, as it guards against special attacks only, and Wall is just like Shell. Other spells that cause status effects, like Silence, Fog, etc. aren't completely necessary, but feel free to add them at your own leisure. For Black Magic spells, I very highly recommend the four elemential spells: Fire, Blizzard, Thunder and Scourge. Aura, Haste and Beserk are also high on my ranking list. They amp up the attack of your party, which is useful even against high-defense enemies. Drain and Osmose make your Black Mage a self- sufficient fighter, as your BM can absorb HP and MP. Flare is a nice spell to have, as long as it's at a higher level, and your INT is high. Death is okay, but it doesn't hit against most bosses. All other spells can be added at your own leisure. As far as I can tell, the entire point of Soul of Rebirth is to level up your characters so you can advance through the story. When you're good and ready, you can go into the portal on the southeastern side of town and enter the Chamber of the Soul ============================================================ : Soul of Rebirth - Chamber of the Seal ^[CHAM0] : ------------ ------------ Upon entering the Chamber of the Seal, Minwu quickly realizes that this place is where he gave his life so that Firion, Maria and Guy could obtain the Ultima Tome. This time, there's no random encounters, and only five items to obtain. When Minwu reaches the door, he'll break the seal again. Can you imagine Minwu? KAAAAAAAAA-MEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAA-MEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *ahem* Anyways, when Minwu breaks the seal again, go inside the door and obtain the four orbs on the corners that contain boosts for your Strength, Agility, Spirit, and Intelligence. Then go to the middle orb and talk to it to activate one of the hardest battles in this game. ======================================================= : Soul of Rebirth - Ultima WEAPON : :-----------------------------------------------------: : Rank 7/7 : Weakness : : HP 15000 : None : : MP 500 : : : ATK 150 : Resistance : : ACC 9-100 : All : : DEF 190 : : : EVA 1-80 : Absorbs : : M-DEF 8-70 : None : : Gil 0 : : : : Treasure Won : : : None : : : : ======================================================= Ultima WEAPON is easily the hardest boss in the entire game. And you know, he's completely optional, since you don't require the Ultima Tome to beat the game, it's just a nice perk. Anyways, Ultima is almost completely invincible to physical attacks. And he's also very resistant to all magical attacks. However, magic is the only way to hurt it, so boost up your party with Blink and Protect, then start hammering away at it with your strongest spells. If you can outlast Ultima WEAPON, the Tome is yours for the taking. :) ============================================================ : Soul of Rebirth - The Unknown Palace ^[UPAL0] : ------------ ------------ If this part of the FAQ looks familiar ... it's the same as the Pandaemonium section [SHOW9] of this FAQ, only reversed. :) Items obtained -------------- Ether Genji Gloves Wyvern Lance Wild Rose Stardust Rod Ribbon Bracers Genji Helm Aegis Shield Genji Armor Monsters encountered Monster HP ATK DEF Gil Weakness ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Black Dragon 5000 180 180 15000 --- Bloodbones 1000 90 35 600-1200 Fire Cait Sith 700 40 60 0 --- Catoblepas 1200 100 85 2250-3000 --- Chaos Rider 1800 120 120 2250-3000 --- Chimera Brain 2000 85 70 3000-15000 --- Dark Behemoth 6000 180 120 15000 --- Dark Magician 750 40 35 75 --- Dark Soul 500 35 40 75 --- Gold Golem 3000 150 200 15000 Lit Lamia Matriarch 1760 50 50 15000 --- Li'l Murderer 1500 100 4 1200-1500 Lit Marlboro Menace 900 85 85 15000 Ice, Fire Mini Satana 1200 60 50 15000 --- Mother Brain 200 40 35 600-1200 Mind Orukat 1140 85 70 15000 --- Purobolos 800 60 50 300-450 Ice Twin Heads 800 40 25 900-1500 Ice Warg Wolf 1500 70 50 2250-3000 --- This place seems awfully familiar ... nah, must be just me. When you hit the southern wall, go west and you'll see a chest that contains a set of Genji Gloves. Backtrack to the entrance of this area and head north, then west, then south. Follow the east path to pass right through a wall and a shortcut to the next level down. = F4 = There's four doors to pick from. If you want to just skip to the end, take the second door from the left and skip ahead to the *End* tag. Keep in mind that the items you get by taking the other doors are extremely powerful, but they're guarded quite well. You have been warned. Take the right most door to start your quest for items. = F5 = Follow the path. When it splits into a stairway vs. a door, take the door and go up and hit the north wall. Slip through the wall on the right and head all the way north, then slip through the right wall for the Wyvern's Lance and a fight: ======================================================= : Mini Boss - Black Dragon : :-----------------------------------------------------: : Rank 7/7 : Weakness : : HP 5000 : None : : MP 450 : : : ATK 180 : Resistance : : ACC 8-100 : None : : DEF 180 : : : EVA 1-75 : Absorbs : : M-DEF 8-40 : None : : Gil 15000 : : : : Treasure Won : : : Dragon Armor : : : Holy Lance : : : Dragon Shield : : : Black Garb : : : Hermes' Shoes : : : : ======================================================= The Black Dragon might be the single largest threat in this entire dungeon. Not only does it pop up in random encounters, it has a sky high defense. Its basic attack is a lone Flare spell that targets one character. This one spell can easily shave off half your HP. Luckily, the Wyvern's Lance you just picked up can actually hurt the Black Dragon. Whip it on Ricard and go to town. If you can outlast the Flare spells, the battle shouldn't be a total one-sided battle. It's mostly a game of who-can-last-longer. [ARSJDAFGCGKJHSKOKLN] Follow the path south. When you go down the set of stairs, take the north path all the way up, then all the way east, right through two walls, and then stop right as you pass the statue. There's a hidden wall on the right side, so hug the right wall until you pass through fight Lucifer for the Wild Rose. ======================================================= : Boss - Lucifer : :-----------------------------------------------------: : Rank 7/7 : Weakness : : HP 10000 : None : : MP 540 : : : ATK 160 : Resistance : : ACC 9-100 : Fire, Ice, Lit : : DEF 190 : : : EVA 1-80 : Absorbs : : M-DEF 8-70 : None : : Gil 15000 : : : : Treasure Won : : : White Robe : : : Mythril Mirror : : : Spider's Silk : : : Saint's Spirit : : : Wind Flute : : : : ======================================================= Lucifer has a pretty high defense. Keep that in mind should you choose to try and attack him. The Wild Rose you picked up is a great weapon for Scott, so put it on him and let him attack freely. High level spells like Ultima, Flare and Holy will work best on Lucifer, so throw a good defense on your team and go to town. Also be careful, since Lucifer has a plethora of high level spells at his disposal, AND Lucifer will steal HP from you when he attacks you directly. Now then, you have to walk all the way back. Using Warp and/or Teleport is not an option, as both spells DO NOT WORK HERE. Take the two hidden walls I previously mentioned. Then take the right side door and continue south until you reach the previous floor. = F4 = Take the door that's second from the right. = F5 = Go east and through the doorway. Put up the same old Blink+Protect+Shell, then hit him with your highest level spells. If you've followed this FAQ, you should have the Wild Rose, the Wyvern's Lance and the Stardust Rod. The first two work quite well if you put up Beserk and Aura. Beware the spells that hit your entire party; there's a lot of them. Head back the same way you came. The Steel Giant hits hard and casts some nasty spells. Use Thunder liberally to take down the Steel Giant quickly. Physical attacks don't hit as hard as a good Thunder spell, and you shouldn't drag this battle out. If you do it quickly enough, you can even ditch the Blink+Protect+Shell combo. Also, if you get any treasure after the battle is won, put it on whoever needs it. However, Scott is probably the only one who will make good use of the Excalibur. Seriously. @_@ Well, cast Fire to beat it down. Also, Beelzebub Soul can cast Blink on itself, rendering ALL physical attacks totally useless. Although the boss hits hard, you may be able to ditch the defensive spells to attack it as much as possible with Fire. Its lower HP allows you to defeat it quicker. Unfortunately, you can't equip the Bracers until you win the battle. Start heading right, but stop before you go through the door. There's another fake wall to the right. After passing through the fake wall, take the left path down and go down the portal. Before you descend, hug the right wall to shorten your trip just a bit more. = F4 = There's one path. Go all the way north from the entrance (taking the right path when it splits) to find a set of Genji Armor. From the Armor, go west and hug the wall to slip through. At the far west end lies the exit. [ARQJWAECTRKYTSUOIN] = F9 = There's nothing here except two portals. The one you start at is in the middle of the area. The exit lies at the far southeastern corner. Go straight there to conserve your resources; the final boss is coming soon. = F10 = This is it! The final battle lies ahead. Walk straight north, since dinking around might get you stuck into a few random battles. If you stand in front of the Emperor, you won't automatically trigger an event. Do so, use four Elixers to replenish everything. Then save and get ready! Only ... something is different this time. Everyone has Level 16 spells. :P The battle with the Emperor is much different this time. Although his stats are very similar (save HP), the way you go about beating the Emperor is completely different. You now (should) have 4 kickass weapons at your disposal. Use them to wreak great havoc on the Emperor. Most of the Emperor's attacks target your team as a whole. However, he can cast a Lv. 16 spell against a lone character, so watch out. The Emperor can slap your characters (depending on your stats) anywhere between 1000-2000 HP. Although high level spells work rather well, the weapons you have work well if you have Beserk+Aura+Haste in place. One last thing, the Emperor uses Dispel 16 every once in a while, making all the defense you (should have) put up useless. However, Dispel DOES NOT WORK AGAINST Haste, Beserk or Aura. Use that to your advantage and put those three spells on your party early on. [QRWJEARCTKYSUOIN] Now, watch the same ending, from a different point of view. Watch the credits, and be sure to save over an empty file! If you do what I did, you can save your SoR clear data over your FF2 clear data.
