Although I do own a Dreamcast, I got to play neither the original Soul Calibur nor Soul Blade for the PlayStation, so SCII was a godsend to me. While I’m not the world’s biggest fighting game fan, I do enjoy playing one every once and a while, and SCII is easily one of the best fighters I’ve ever played (if not THE best). So anyway, for this FAQ I’ve decided to leave out all that preliminary stuff I usually throw into all my other work, such as characters and game basics. Why did I do this? Simply because just playing through the Weapon Master Mode (hereby WMM) doesn’t require much knowledge of every feature in SCII’s fighting system. Besides, the first mission tells you everything you need to know. So without further adieu, here we go! Enjoy! --Chris Noonan / VTS ----------------------------------------------------------- CONTACT INFORMATION Need to get in contact with me? That's cool, so long as you follow some simple rules. What that means is that if you are too lazy to check through the FAQ by pressing Ctrl + F and searching for whatever it is that you're looking for, then I'm too lazy to reply. Also, do not ask me any questions about something that I may not have covered yet, as I probably don't know anything about it and would prefer not to have it spoiled for me. Now, if e-mail isn't your cup of tea, then you can always try to catch me on AIM, where my name is trigunner1411. Experience: 400 | Gold: 600 This battle is nothing more than a basic tutorial on how to play the game. Your opponent (Mitsurugi) will give you some instructions and you’ll then get to try them out. Here’s a blow-by-blow description of the battle: *First press A to hit him with a horizontal attack. *Second press Y to slash him vertically. *Third press X to perform a kick. *Next guard against his attack by pressing either B or one of the triggers. *Now just circle around him a bit. *Throw your opponent by pressing either A or Y whilst guarding. *First use any attack against him and he’ll Guard Impact it. Now you get to try it: just watch for his attack and press B and either left or right. If you’re anything like me, it’ll take a few tries before you can nail it down. *Finally, you are asked to perform a Soul Charge. You can do this by either pressing up on the C-Stick or by pressing Z. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Random Objective: Combatants are launched high into the air when knocked against the ground. Both combatants’ health recovers. Defeat the enemy under these conditions! Experience: 800 | Gold: 1200 You just need to use some simple knockdown moves here for an easy victory. You can also win just using normal attacks, as they work perfectly fine here. Bulwark Ruins ******* ***** Opponents: Kilik, Xianghua, Maxi Objective: Utilize all that you learned to defeat all the enemies! Experience: 400 | Gold: 900 This is a simple three-stage battle meant to help you hone your skills before taking on some of the more difficult missions. You’ll have to fight Kilik followed by Xianghua and finally Maxi all in a row, but they aren’t very powerful opponents and your health will be replenished between each fight. Easy stuff. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Ivy, Astaroth, Nightmare Objective: Defeat all the enemies Experience: 800 | Gold: 1800 There’s nothing special about this mission –- it’s just a simple ladder match. Warrior’s Trial Grounds ********* ***** ******* Opponent: Character Specific (each character has a different enemy) Objective: Overcome the enemy to clear the trial! Experience: 400 | Gold: 1500 Who you fight in this battle depends upon which character you chose to use. For the sake of simplicity, I’ll just refer to this opponent as “Character Specific”. Anyway, this battle isn’t too hard, so just apply everything you learned in the first mission and you shouldn’t have any trouble. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Sophitia, Seung Mina, Necrid, Link Objective: The enemies have strange weapons. Defeat all the enemies under this condition! Experience: 800 | Gold: 3000 This is a pretty funny mission, as all of your foes are equipped with their joke weapons! Anyway, there isn’t much to say here, as the battles don’t really have anything to give them a twist. ******************************************************************************* b) Thuban ******************************************************************************* Thuban Ferry ****** ***** Opponent: Voldo Objective: Land 20 hits on the enemy and survive the round! Experience: 500 | Gold: 400 This battle may take awhile if you aren’t too skilled yet. You have a paltry 20 seconds to nail your opponent with 20 strikes. Just use some rapid attacks and avoid blows that knock your foe down and you should do fine. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Taki Objective: Land 20 hits on the quick enemy and survive the round! Experience: 1000 | Gold: 800 This battle is pretty tough, mainly due to how quick Taki is and what little time you are given. You have 20 seconds to land 20 hits again, but this time your opponent will block often and put up a good fight. I’ve found that Link has a really useful move that helps greatly with this: repeatedly press forward+Y. Village of Arche ******* ** ***** Opponent: Yunsung Objective: Strong gusts constantly push you and prevent you from stopping at the edge of the of the stage. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 500 | Gold: 800 This is just a normal battle...Except that the wind is very powerful, so you’ll be pushed towards the edge. Deplete your foe’s energy if you want, although circling around him and knocking him off the ledge is quite a bit easier. Just make sure you don’t get too close yourself, as the enemy can get a ring out on you, as well. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Mitsurugi Objective: Strong gusts constantly push you and prevent you from stopping at the edge of the stage. Furthermore, both combatants’ speed is increased. Defeat the enemy under these conditions! Experience: 1000 | Gold: 1600 Just like in the normal mission, the best way to complete this is to simply strafe around your foe and go for the ring out. Minkar Mine ****** **** Opponent: Boss - Chief of Minkar (Yoshimitsu) Objective: Navigate through the enemy-infested dungeon and defeat the boss. Experience: 400 | Gold: 1600 Here’s a crude map of your first dungeon. Entrance ----> [ ]-[ ]-[ ] | [ ] <---- Boss Before you reach the boss, you get to fight against two weak, random opponents. It’s pretty easy to get ring outs, too, so making your way to the boss should prove to be a rather simple task. The boss himself isn’t all that hard either. If you’re having trouble beating him, though, try to go for a ring out. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Boss – Raphael Objective: Navigate through the enemy-infested dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 800 | Gold: 2200 The dungeon layout is exactly the same as the normal mission, so I won’t bother with another sucky map. ******************************************************************************* c) Benetnasch ******************************************************************************* Carnival ******** Opponent: Charade Objective: You cannot hold your footing at the edge of the stage. Defeat the enemy with a ring out! Experience: 700 | Gold: 1000 This isn’t too difficult. Just get your opponent near the ledge (most characters have a throw or two that will do the trick) and knock them off with a kick. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Objective: You cannot hold your footing at the edge of the stage, and the gravity is weaker. Defeat the enemy with a ring out! Experience: 1300 | Gold: 2000 In this mission, your normal attacks will barely scratch the enemy, although you can send your foe higher into the air due to the weakened gravity. Getting a ring out shouldn’t be excessively difficult. Talitha Gambling Den ******* ******** *** Opponent: Character Specific (remember this guy from Regulus?) Objective: Receive heavy damage when knocked against the ground or wall. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 700 | Gold: 1000 Normal attacks hardly do anything here, so you need to knock your enemy against the wall/ground to cause some heavy damage. If you’re new to Soul Calibur and don’t know any moves that will do the trick, switch over to Mitsurugi and use his back+X move -- it works wonders. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Three random characters Objective: Combatants receive heavy damage when knocked against the ground or wall. Furthermore, your appearance has changed. Defeat all the enemies under this condition! Experience: 1300 | Gold: 2000 I cannot stand playing this mission, probably because I totally suck with Lizardman, who is the character you’re forced to play as. I’ve compiled a few of his moves that work well in certain situations though, so here they are: *Use these when you’re near the wall: Back-back-X *Good knockdown attacks: A+Y Up+A Other than those, though, I really can’t help you out here. Button-mashing and a lot of luck is all that got me past this mission. Diphda Temple ****** ****** Opponent: Raphael Objective: Throws are more effective. Defeat the enemy! Experience: 700 | Gold: 500 As the objective suggests, throws work very well here. That’s not to say that you can’t win using normal attacks, because you can, but throws just tend to work better here. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Charade Objective: The enemy will continually guard. Cause a Guard Break and attack while the enemy’s defenses are down! Experience: 1300 | Gold: 1000 Another tough one. You have only a mere 20 seconds to deplete your foe’s energy meter, while it guards nearly the entire time! I recommend equipping a weapon that penetrates your opponent’s defense, so that you’ll cause a little bit of damage even when it guards. Just try to catch Charade off guard and you should win eventually. Benetnasch Harbor ********** ****** Opponents: Maxi, Ivy, Voldo, King of the Pirates (Cervantes) Objective: The enemies’ weapons have poison, so you will go numb if you are damaged! Defeat the enemies under this condition! Experience: 800 | Gold: 2500 A ladder match against the four characters who are, in my opinion, the most difficult to fight against, eh? This CAN’T be good. To make matters worse, you’ll be stunned each time you’re hit, giving your foes more time to strike again. Think it can’t get any worse? You’re dead wrong, pal, since you only have limited health replenishment between fights. My advice: guard often and go for ring outs against everyone -- it’ll make life a lot easier for you. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Ivy, Raphael, Cervantes, Voldo Objective: Defeat all the enemies! Experience: 1500 | Gold: 5000 Thankfully, this mission isn’t too difficult. It’s simply a ladder match against four enemies. No special qualities that make this any tougher. Yay. Also, your health will be totally restored between matches. ******************************************************************************* d) Mizar ******************************************************************************* Al Gieba Ruins ** ***** ***** Opponent: Servant of Veral (Assassin) Objective: Force the bomb off onto the enemy with your attacks! You win if the enemy has the bomb when the timer runs out. Experience: Ever play hot potato? No? Well, you’re about to! Basically, you just have to make sure you get the last attack. The best way I’ve fought to do this is to wait until there are only a few seconds left and then hit your foe with a knockdown attack. This way, they don’t have enough time to return the favor. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Random opponent Objective: Force the bomb off onto the enemy with your attacks! You win if the enemy has the bomb when the timer runs out. Experience: 1500 | Gold: 2400 Almost the same thing as the normal version of this mission. Easy as pie. Windmill ******** Opponents: Yoshimitsu, Taki Objective: Your health is low. Defeat all the enemies under this condition! Experience: 800 | Gold: 1200 Okay, so you have half of your energy meter to defeat two enemies. No biggie, we’re just going to regain some of it after the first battle. I don’t really have much to say here; just try to not take too much damage. As always, ring outs are terrific ways to preserve your health. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Assassin, Assassin Objective: Your health is low. Defeat all the enemies under this condition! Experience: 1500 | Gold: 2400 Same thing as above, only significantly harder. Nothing new, here. Merope Monastery ****** ********* Opponents: Yunsung, Ivy, Mitsurugi, Astaroth, Nightmare Objective: The timer increases with each enemy you defeat. Defeat all the enemies before time runs out! Experience: 800 | Gold: 3000 There really isn’t anything to say here, as it is just a basic battle against several opponents with any real twists. The timer will increase after each battle, so as long as you don’t take too long you should be fine. Also, I shouldn’t need to mention this, but I will anyway: ring outs save TONS of time. As an added plus, you’re health will be fully restored after each fight. Nice! **Extra Mission** Opponents: Mitsurugi, Voldo, Taki, Nightmare, Cervantes Objective: The timer increases with each enemy you defeat. Figure out the best way to defeat all the enemies before time runs out! Experience: Simply put, this mission is HARD! Your opponents are relentless and the timer is only increased by 15 seconds between matches. Your best bet is to lure you first opponent, Mitsurugi, towards the edge and knock him off to save some time. In fact, ring outs will be integral to your victory. Hopefully you’ll have between 30-40 seconds for each of the two final battles so that you’ll be able to put up an actual fight. Deserted Village ******** ******* Opponents: Mitsurugi, Raphael Objective: The enemies favor Vertical Attacks and are armed with weapons that excel in Breaks. Defeat the enemies under these conditions! Experience: 900 | Gold: 1200 This isn’t much different from a normal fight. Just use your favorite moves and try not to lose an excessive amount of health during the first battle and you’ll win with little trouble. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Necrid, Astaroth Objective: The enemies favor Horizontal Attacks and are armed with weapons that are strong against Breaks. Defeat the enemies under these conditions! Experience: 1800 | Gold: 2400 I just fight this like I would a normal battle and I do fine. I expect you’ll be able to do the same. Charon’s Pass ******** **** Opponent: Boss - Paladin Knight of Charon (Sophitia) Objective: Navigate through the booby-trapped dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 1500 | Gold: 3000 Here's my nifty dungeon map for you! Keep in mind that rooms marked “I” take place on ice, while rooms marked “Q” take place in quicksand. “F” signifies a stage that has fire surrounding the outer edge. The room with a “P” on it will yield a reward when you beat it. Unmarked rooms are just normal battlefields with no abnormal hazards. [P] | [ ]-[ ]-[ ] <--- Boss | Entrance ---> [ ]-[I]-[Q]-[F]-[ ] Until you reach the boss, you’ll be fighting against a set of randomly- chosen opponents on various different types of terrain. Battles that take place on ice can be especially tricky; I recommend going for the ring out. Quicksand doesn’t have much of an impact on the battle, nor does the fire. Stand in the flaming lava too long, though, and you’ll receive some damage. Not cool, but it works against your opponents as well. One last thing: almost all of the enemies in this dungeon are constantly regaining their health, so it’s best to take them out as quickly as possible. The boss fight is against Sophitia, who fights similarly to her sister Cassandra. Like most everyone else in this dungeon, her health is recharging all the time. Nonetheless, she isn’t a very tough opponent. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Boss - Warrior of Prophecy (Maxi) Objective: Navigate through the booby-trapped dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 1500 | Gold: 6000 Until you reach the boss, this dungeon is VERY similar to the version seen in the normal mission. The boss is Maxi, but the catch is that his health is always regenerating. Nonetheless, a few good hits should take him down. Nothing too difficult. ******************************************************************************* e) Altair ******************************************************************************* Nereid Gorge ****** ***** Opponents: Nightmare, Yoshimitsu, Assassin Objective: Team up with the fort’s soldiers and defeat all the enemies! Experience: 900 | Gold: 2100 Depending on your skill with the three characters you are given (Xianghua, Taki, and Mitsurugi), this battle can be really easy or really hard. Pretty much, it’s your team of three against the enemy’s team of three. If you lose, you have to use your next character. There really isn’t a whole lot to say here other than try button-mashing if you aren’t particularly avid with any of the available characters. It may be cheap, but it works. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Three random opponents Objective: Control a special team and defeat all the enemies! Experience: 1800 | Gold: 4200 In this battle, your team, comprised of Assassin, Berserker, and Lizardman, must defeat three randomly-chosen foes. If you aren’t particularly skilled with any of the characters given to you it isn’t really a big deal. Button-mashing and/or performing a few basic moves or two-button combos always works for me. Paradise of Altair ******** ** ****** Opponent: Whoever you are playing as Objective: You are your worst enemy...Defeat yourself! Experience: 900 | Gold: 1400 This is just a normal battle with no gimmicks, so it really comes down to whether you’re halfway decent and can beat this stage or if you really suck and can’t. There isn’t much of a strategy, other than maybe go for a ring out. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Mitsurugi, Samurai of the Fire (Mitsurugi) Objective: The enemies have excellent speed and health. The ability to knock back the enemy has increased. Defeat all of the enemies within the time limit! Experience: 1800 | Gold: 2400 Since you can knock enemies back a lot further than normal, this is the perfect opportunity to go for the ring out. As per usual, it works like a charm! ******************************************************************************* f) Aldebaran ******************************************************************************* Castle of the Dead ****** ** *** **** Opponent: Berserker Objective: Defeat the enemy within the time limit! Experience: 1000 | Gold: 800 At first, this seems just to be a normal battle with no gimmicks to spice it up. Of course, once you start you find that your attacks don’t do nearly as much damage as they should. Fortunately, there’s still plenty of time to kill your opponent, Berserker. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Assassin Objective: The enemy has excellent speed and health. Furthermore, your health decreases over time. Defeat the enemy within the time limit! Experience: 2000 | Gold: 1600 Since your health is quickly running out, you need to end this battle quickly. Just use some powerful combos/moves or knock Assassin out of the ring. No biggie. City of Nashira **** ** ******* Opponents: 5 randomly chosen opponents Objective: The prize money doubles with each win. Gauge your strength and win the matches! Experience: 1000 | Gold: Ranges from 300-4800 Winning this tournament can be kind of tough, actually. Getting ring outs and/or winning battles without taking much damage will be key should you choose to try to win this tourney, since your health isn’t restored between matches. Of course, a wussy player will just win the first battle, keep the pocket money, and move onwards to the next stage. Personally, I find that it’s much more rewarding to win the tournament rather than to run away. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Five randomly chosen opponents Objective: The prize money doubles with each win. Gauge your strength and win the matches. Experiences: 2000 | Gold: Ranges from 1000-16000 As with before, you don’t HAVE to win the entire tournament; the first battle is all you NEED to win. Be a man and go for the gold, it just takes a little skill! Seginus Temple ******* ****** Opponent: Halberdier of Seginus (Seung Mina) Objective: The enemy’s weapon has the ability to Guard Break. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 1000 | Gold: 800 This is your first battle against the Korean beauty Seung Mina, who happens to fight a lot like Kilik. Anyway, this battle shouldn’t be a problem unless you rely almost solely on guarding to win your battles, but who does that? **Extra Mission** Opponent: Seung Mina Objective: The enemy’s weapon has the ability to Guard Break. Defeat the Enemy under this condition! Experience: 2000 | Gold: 1600 Granted you can win without guarding all the time, this battle should be a snap! Crytomeria Ridge ********** ***** Opponent: Cassandra Objective: Guard Impact the enemy’s attacks! Experience: 1200 | Gold: 800 Normal attacks do next to no damage at all. Don’t even bother with them. How do you win this battle then? Use Guard Impacts! Two should do the trick. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Sophitia Objective: The enemy excels in Guard Impacts. Reverse the Guard Impact back at the enemy! Experience: 2300 | Gold: 1600 I can personally guarantee you that you will NOT win this battle just using normal attacks, so don’t even bother with them! Wait for an opportunity and apply that nifty Guard Impact technique you’ve got. As with before, two should do quite nicely. Siam Ruins **** ***** Opponent: Guardian of the Empire (Yunsung) Objective: The enemy’s weapon absorbs life. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 1200 | Gold: 800 This battle is pretty straightforward -- you need to slap Yunsung silly. He regains a small amount of health whenever he strikes you, but this isn’t much of a problem. Next! **Extra Mission** Opponent: Taki Objective: Crouch or jump to avoid the effects of the frequent earthquakes. Furthermore, the enemy’s health recovers over time. Defeat the enemy under these conditions! Experience: 2300 | Gold: 1600 This is rather easy –- just use your best moves until the countdown gets to one, then duck and watch as your opponent is stunned. Use this to your advantage and nail her. Underground Juno *********** **** Opponent: Boss - Servant of Veral (Assassin), Marauder of Slaughter (Astaroth) Objective: Navigate through the enemy-infested dungeon and defeat the boss within the time limit! Experience: 2300 | Gold: 3800 [ ]-[ ]-[ ]-[P] P: Prize for clearing this room | | Entrance ---> [ ]-[ ]-[ ] [ ] | | [ ]-[ ]-[ ] | [ ] | [ ] <--- Boss You have 200 seconds to completely clear this dungeon, so try your best to finish off your battles quickly. Of course, the most effective method of doing this is to get a ring out. If you lose a battle, the timer is restored to whatever it was at before the fight began and you’ll get to try again. The boss is a match against two opponents: Assassin followed by Astaroth. Neither foe is any more potent than usual, so your real enemy here is the time limit. Hopefully you went through the dungeon quick enough to have some decent time left for this fight. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Boss - Sword Master of the Hornet (Xianghua), Halberdier of Seginus (Seung Mina) Objective: Navigate through the booby-trapped dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 4600 | Gold: 7600 Other than the addition of some new twists, such as some slightly-different battle abilities (sometimes you can knock the enemy back further than usual), this dungeon is very similar to the one seen in the normal mission. The layout is the same, as well. Neither of the bosses, Xianghua and Seung Mina, are especially difficult. As long as you made it through the dungeon with sufficient time (40 seconds should be good) you’ll do fine. ******************************************************************************* g) Rigel ******************************************************************************* Underground Prison *********** ****** Opponent: Maxi Objective: Receive heavy damage when knocked against the ground or wall. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 1200 | Gold: 1800 Normal attacks hardly do any damage here, so you have to rely on blows that knock the enemy down or that push him against the wall. If you still don’t know any attacks like that with your character, switch over to Mitsurugi and use his back+X, as it works perfectly for this battle. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Random Objective: Knock the enemy against the wall and utilize wall combos to defeat the enemy! Experience: 2300 | Gold: 3600 This is pretty much the same mission as before. Mitsurugi’s back+X still works effectively. Rigel, Spiritual City ****** ********* **** Opponent: Character Specific (remember this guy from Chapter 1, Stage 3?) Objective: Neither you nor the enemy can guard against attacks. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 1300 | Gold: 1800 There isn’t a whole lot to say about this battle. Guarding has no effect here, so just unload all your best moves and you’ll do fine. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Random Objective: Neither you nor the enemy can guard against attacks. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 2500 | Gold: 3600 If you’re like me, you probably don’t guard a whole lot anyway (that probably explains why I suck at this game), so taking that ability away doesn’t do much harm. Guard Impacts still work, though. Forbidden Grounds ********* ******* Opponent: Fragment of Soul Edge (Inferno) Objective: Defeat the enemy! Experience: 1300 | Gold: 900 This battle can be pretty difficult, so be sure to use your best character. Your opponent, Inferno, will take on the fighting style of any other character in the game, so there isn’t any solid strategy to use. Just use your best moves and try to guard against his attacks. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Fragment of Soul Edge (Inferno) Objective: Defeat the enemy! Experience: 2500 | Gold: 1800 See above. What little strategy there was to begin with hasn’t changed. ******************************************************************************* h) Merak ******************************************************************************* Sirius, City in the Sky ******* **** ** *** *** Opponents: Yunsung, Cassandra, Raphael, Ivy, Xianghua Objective: The timer increases with each enemy you defeat. However, the enemies’ weapons penetrate defenses. Defeat all the enemies before time runs out! Experience: 1300 | Gold: 5000 You start off with 50 seconds on the clock, and since none of the enemies are particularly difficult, your only worry should be your health, which is replenished between battles anyway. If you do happen to take a bit too long with a battle or two, go for the ring out, as it saves mucho time. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Five randomly chosen foes Objective: The timer increases with each enemy you defeat. However, the enemies’ health recovers over time. Defeat all the enemies before time runs out! Experience: 2500 | Gold: 10000 The timer begins at 50 and although you only regain a measly 10 seconds between battles, the only thing you really need to worry about is finishing off your foes quickly so their health can’t replenish. Crystal Mine ******* **** Opponent: Random Objective: The ability to knock back the enemy has been increased, but your health decreases over time. Defeat the enemy under these conditions! Experience: 1400 | Gold: 2000 Since your health will be decreasing rather quickly, you need to end this battle very quickly. The best way to do this? A ring out, of course. Since you can knock enemies back further during this battle, most characters have a kick that will help out here. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Charade Objective: Combatants are launched high into the air when knocked to the ground. Furthermore, the ability to knock back the enemy has been increased. Defeat the enemy under these conditions! Experience: 2800 | Gold: 4000 There are two ways you can go about completing this battle: use your increased knock-back ability and go for the ring out OR slap your foe silly using some powerful moves. Either method will get the job done quickly and easily, so take your pick. Dubhe Arena ***** ***** Opponent: Voldo Objective: Knock the enemy against the wall and utilize wall combos to defeat the enemy! Experience: 1400 | Gold: 2000 As you might expect, normal attacks do very little damage here, so you need to nail your foe once he’s been knocked up against the wall. My favorite way to get him against the wall is to use Mitsurugi’s back+X. Just wail on him with some quick blows once he’s on the wall and the battle will be over before you know it. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Random Objective: Knock the enemy against the wall and utilize wall combos to defeat the enemy! Experience: 2800 | Gold: 4000 If you’ve been reading this guide all the way through, you probably already know my favorite move for knocking foes against the wall. But for you folks who just started reading here, Mitsurugi’s back+X totally owns here (that’s right, no “p” in own for me, thanks). Io’s Vase **** **** Opponent: Kilik Objective: Airborne time is increased due to blasts of wind from below. Defeat the enemy using air combos! Experience: 1400 | Gold: 2000 Want an easy victory? Use Mitsurugi’s back+X and then press Y while your foe is still in the air. An automatic victory. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Random Objective: Airborne time is increased due to blasts of wind from below. Defeat the enemy using air combos! Experience: 2800 | Gold: 4000 See above, only this time you have to use that move several times to get the win. No big deal. Phantom Cave (Unlock by beating Stage 2 [Extra Mission] of Subchapter 4) ******* **** Opponent: Boss – Knight of Oblivion (Lizardman) Objective: Navigate through the booby-trapped dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 3100 | Gold: 6200 Entrance ---> [ ]-[ ]-[ ]-[Q]-[Q]-[ ] I: Ice battle | | Q: Quicksand battle [ ] [Q] F: Fire ring battle | | [I] [ ] | | [ ]-[ ] [F] | | [I] [ ]-[F]-[ ]-[ ] <--- Boss | | [ ]-[ ]-[ ] This dungeon is pretty easy overall. All the battles leading up to the boss are against Lizardman. To make things even easier, his health usually starts at 50%. Not very difficult at all. The boss is another Lizardman. Still very easy. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Boss - Knight of Oblivion (Lizardman) Objective: Navigate through the booby-trapped dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 6200 | Gold: 12400 As always, it’s the same dungeon as the normal mission. The Lizardman grunts en route to the boss put up more of a fight than before, but they’re still cakewalks. The boss is also the same, so cut right through him and proceed to the next stage. Grand Shrine of Merak ***** ****** ** ***** Opponent: Dark Knight of Soul Edge (Nightmare) Objective: The enemy’s health recovers over time. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 1500 | Gold: 1000 Since his health is actively recovering, your best bet to defeat this bad dude is to nail him with a continuous series of quick attacks. If you pause too long or back off to guard, his health will rise with frightening speed. If you find yourselves fighting near the edge, going for a ring out is always a terrific idea. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Ivy, Necrid, Guardian Knight of the Soul (Kilik) Objective: The enemies recover their health over time. Defeat all the enemies under this condition! Experience: 2800 | Gold: 2000 Since the only advantage these foes have over you is the recovering health, which is something you’ve dealt with countless times before, you shouldn’t have much trouble with this. If you are having problems, though, try equipping a weapon that has the ability to restore health, either with a Soul Charge or simply by attacking. Both ways work quite effectively. ******************************************************************************* i) Algol ******************************************************************************* Corridor of the Sky ******** ** *** *** Opponent: Astaroth Objective: Only the enemy’s weapon is visible. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 1500 | Gold: 2200 Since you can only see an axe floating around in midair, you’ll probably take a bit more damage that you might usually. However, since your target is so large you shouldn’t have an problems connecting with your attacks. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Random Objective: Only the enemies’ weapons are visible. Defeat all the enemies under this condition! Experience: 2800 | Gold: 4400 The lack of a body to attack may seem a bit disorientating, but connecting with your blows really isn’t all that difficult. Sure, you’ll miss more often than usual, but the fight really isn’t all that tough. Ancient Amphitheater ******* ************ Opponents: Cassandra, Yunsung, Raphael, Mitsurugi Objective: Unseen forces push the combatants together. Defeat the opponents under this condition! A bonus is available during the matches! Experience: 1700 | Gold: Determined by the number of hits you land This mission is comprised of a tournament-style battle against four opponents. The battles are very short, a mere 15 seconds, and since your health will NOT be restored between matches, it’s a fantastic idea to end the fights as quickly as you can. Since you get extra gold for each hit you lay on your foes, it is a good idea to get in as many hits as possible, as well. The thing that makes this mission tough is that you only have one energy meter to take on four foes. I recommend using a character who has a weapon that can restore energy. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Two random opponents followed by Link Objective: There is a bomb on your body; falling down means certain death. Defeat all the enemies under this condition! A bonus is available during the matches! Experience: 3000 | Gold: Determined by the number of hits you land This battle can be REALLY frustrating, since you’ll die immediately if you touch the ground. You’ll soon find that careful guarding and sidestepping will be integral if you really want to win. Of course, finishing the battles off ASAP is key here, as it will significantly lower the risk. Reclusive Palace ********* ****** Opponent: Unknown (Charade) Objective: Only one part of the enemy can be seen. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 1700 | Gold: 2200 For this battle, you can only see and strike the lower portion of Charade’s body. Fortunately though, it can only use kicks against you. Just use some low attacks and you shouldn’t have too much trouble. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Unknown (Charade) Objective: Only one part of the enemy can be seen, and the enemy has excellent speed. Defeat the enemy under these conditions! Experience: 3000 | Gold: 11000 Simply use low-hitting attacks and you’ll be able to complete this mission with plenty of ease. Northern Algol ******** ***** Opponents: Dual Knight of the Sun (Cassandra), Dual Knight of the Moon (Sophitia) Objective: Defeat the enemies! Experience: 1700 | Gold: 2200 There isn’t anything particularly unique about this battle, so just apply all your best moves and it should be over pretty quickly. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Dual Knight of the Sun (Cassandra), Dual Knight of the Moon (Sophitia) Objective: Defeat all the enemies! Experience: 3000 | Gold: 4400 As far as I can tell, this battle has changed much from the normal version. The only difference I see is that your foes are equipped with their Soul Edge (Complete) weapons, which means they’ll suck out their own life when they attack. ******************************************************************************* j) Antares ******************************************************************************* Midnight Coliseum ******** ******** Opponents: Talim, Xianghua, Seung Mina, Taki, Ivy Objective: Your health is low. Defeat all the enemies under this condition! Experience: 1800 | Gold: 6000 So you have only about 75% of your health to take down five tough opponents. What to do? Ring outs are always useful. Other than that, there isn’t a whole lot of strategy here –- just use your best moves. Also, some energy will be regained between fights, so don’t worry if you lose a little too much in one match. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Raphael, Taki, Mitsurugi, Xianghua, Talim Objective: Your health is low and does not recover. Defeat all the enemies under this condition! Experience: 3000 | Gold: 12000 This battle can be pretty troublesome, since you have to fight five opponents with only 75% or so of your health. I find the easiest way to win this match is to equip your character with a weapon that has the ability to restore health. Otherwise, going for a ring out in every battle is pretty much the best option, unless you’re a master. In that case, you shouldn’t need this FAQ, though. Court of the Dead ***** ** *** **** Opponent: Boss – Character Specific (s/he’s baaaaack!) Objective: Navigate through the enemy-infested dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 4200 | Gold: 3700 Entrance ---> [ ]-[ ]-[ ]-[ ]-[D]-[ ] P: Prize for clearing this room | | D: Health will decrease in this room [ ]-[ ]-[ ]-[ ]-[ ]-[P] | | [ ] [ ] | | Boss ---> [ ]-[ ]-[ ] | [P] All of the normal battles in this dungeon are pretty run-of-the-mill, so you shouldn’t have much trouble with them. The boss is that rival that you’ve already fought against several other times during this mode. S/he probably won’t be all that hard, but if s/he is, go for the ring out. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Boss – Character Specific Objective: Navigate through the enemy-infested dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 8400 | Gold: 7400 As usual, the dungeon layout is the same as the normal mission, so check directly above for the map. The battles in the main room are nothing special, so you shouldn’t have any trouble breezing right through them. The boss is your character’s rival, just like in the normal mission. Depending on which character you’ve chosen, the strategy will vary, as you’ll have a different opponent. There really isn’t much that I can say here. Tartaros ******** Opponent: Bringer of Despair (Inferno) Objective: Unleash all of your power and vanquish the enemy! Experience: 2500 | Gold: 1200 This battle mirrors the final battle in the Arcade Mode. You simply need to beat Inferno as he takes upon the style of three random characters after you deplete a certain amount of his health. The damage your attacks cause seems to be reduced and he’s a pretty powerful opponent, but he shouldn’t be too hard for you. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Soul Edge (Inferno) Objective: Unleash all of your power and vanquish the enemy! Experience: 3500 | Gold: 2400 Similar to last time, this fight consists of three “rounds”, although Inferno keeps the same health meter throughout each “round”. Basically, he’ll use the style of three different characters (Talim, Nightmare, and Xianghua), though he seems to have a few new moves, but I’m not sure. In any event, he’ll transform into a new character the first time after you’ve depleted about 1/3 of his health, and a second time after 2/3 or so of his energy is gone. Inferno is a REALLY tough enemy, but I really don’t have any strategies for beating him, as there are no special conditions in this mission. Good luck! +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+ * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * IV) Subchapter Walkthrough * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+ ******************************************************************************* a) Schedar ******************************************************************************* ***How do I unlock Schedar?*** Beat Stage 3 (Diphda Temple) in Benetnasch. Experience: 1100 | Gold: 1000 Time for another makeshift dungeon map! Fun! Note that the room marked “P” has a prize for clearing that room. Nifty! In the rooms marked “R”, you’ll be regaining health throughout the entire battle. Double nifty! The sole room marked with a “+” rewards you with a prize at the end AND your health restores during the fight. Triple nifty! Finally, the room marked “I” pits you against an invisible foe, where only his weapon can be seen. [ ]-[R]-[ ] | | [ ] [P]-[ ]-[I]-[ ] | | | [ ]-[ ]-[ ] [ ]-[+] | | [ ] [ ] | | [ ] [ ] | | Entrance ---> [ ]-[ ]-[ ] [ ] <--- Boss All of the battles leading up to the boss are against Berserker, and they’re actually pretty simple. This is mainly because Berserker’s health will always rarely start at its maximum level, so the fights will probably end rather quickly. As you may guess, ring outs are quite useful in ending these battles even more rapidly. The boss is just another version of Berserker, whom you should have plenty of experience fighting against after this dungeon, so just apply any of the strategies you’ve been using throughout this place and you’ll do just fine. Just watch out for the countdown -- every three seconds there will be a ground-shaking earthquake which will stun you unless you jump or crouch. It isn’t too difficult to avoid, and it has the same effects against you foe, as well. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Boss – Berserker Objective: Navigate through the booby-trapped dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 2200 | Gold: Varies The dungeon map hasn’t changed from before, and the enemies are all still Berserkers who begin the battle with varying amounts of health. Getting to the boss probably won’t prove to be much of a challenge. In the boss fight, which is against another form of Berserker, you can get some bonus gold by getting as many hits in as possible. Since you’re so familiar with Berserker by now, winning this battle should be easy. ******************************************************************************* b) Alioth ******************************************************************************* ***How do I unlock Alioth?*** First, you need to be at least Level 72 (Iron Edgemaster). Celbarai Fortress ******** ******** Opponent: Platinum Edgemaster of Galahad (Xianghua) Objective: Defeat the enemy under unknown circumstances! Experience: 3800 | Gold: 3000 If you remember the “hot potato battles” from some of the earlier missions then you’ll know what to do here. You just need to make sure you get the last hit before time runs out. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Platinum Edgemaster of Galahad (Xianghua) Objective: Defeat the enemy under unknown conditions! Experience: 7500 | Gold: 17000 I’m really not sure what the “unknown conditions” are in this battle. I was able to win just going into it like it was a normal battle. I suggest you do the same. Ceres Stronghold ***** ********** Opponent: Platinum Edgemaster of Lionel (Voldo) Objective: Defeat the enemy under unknown conditions! Experience: 3800 | Gold: 3000 In this battle, some magical force will push towards Voldo. Take him down with some strong attacks –- this mission is that easy. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Platinum Edgemaster of Lionel (Voldo) Objective: Defeat the enemy under unknown conditions! Experience: 7500 | Gold: 20000 Same thing as last time, only now Voldo’s health will recover throughout the battle. He’s still no match for a few good moves. Ancient Library ******* ******* Opponent: Platinum Edgemaster of Tristam (Taki) Objective: Defeat the enemy under unknown conditions! Experience: 3800 | Gold: 3000 During this battle, your health will SLOWLY decrease. Since it’s so slow, though, you can win this battle quickly without worrying about your health. Taki guards a lot, be she isn’t very tough. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Platinum Edgemaster of Tristam (Taki) Objective: Defeat the enemy under unknown conditions! Experience: 7500 | Gold: 24000 This is the same as before, only your health might decrease a bit faster and Taki fights better. It’s still very easy. Temple in the Clouds ****** ** *** ****** Opponent: Platinum Edgemaster of Elaine (Cassandra) Objective: Defeat the enemy under unknown conditions! Experience: 3800 | Gold: 6000 Strong winds push you towards the wall on the far side of the arena. That’s a good thing, though, because you can pin Cassandra against the wall and nail her with everything you have. Yet another easy win. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Platinum Edgemaster of Elaine (Cassandra) Objective: Defeat the enemy under unknown conditions! Experience: 7500 | Gold: 17000 The battlefield is littered with mines, so you’ll want to either knock her down and take advantage of the explosives or just slap her silly with some good ol’ fashioned brute force. Your choice. ******************************************************************************* c) Pollux ******************************************************************************* ***How do I unlock Pollux?*** Simply beat Stage 2 of Chapter 8. Eternal Palace ******* ****** Opponent: Talim Objective: The ground is strewn with landmines; falling down means certain death. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 2200 | Gold: 1500 Since the arena is filled with landmines and falling down equals death, this battle is pretty much just a quick draw. If you can knock your foe down before she takes you down, you win. If you don’t know any good knockdown moves, select Mitsurugi and press back+X and then Y. It was made for this mission. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Random Objective: The ground is strewn with landmines; falling down means certain death. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 3000 | Gold: 3000 Unlike the normal mission, knocking down an enemy won’t get you an automatic win; you have to deplete his entire energy bar. There is no particular best way to win this fight, just block often and hope for the best. Castle of the Damned ****** ** *** ****** Opponents: Voldo, Ivy, Yoshimitsu, Taki, Assassin Objective: Your health decreases over time. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 2200 | Gold: 7500 The key here is to win your battles ASAP, so that your health doesn’t completely drain down. Although you will regain some between matches, you need enough to survive five whole fights. Ring outs are highly recommended. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Voldo, Ivy, Yoshimitsu, Taki, Assassin Objective: The enemy is quick, and your health decreases over time. Defeat all the enemies under these conditions! Experience: 3000 | Gold: 15000 This is pretty much just a more difficult version of the main mission. Check the strategy directly above. Hero’s Trail ****** ***** Opponent: Boss – Soothsayer of Destiny (Kilik) Objective: Navigate through the booby-trapped dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 2300 | Gold: 8400 [ ]-[I]-[ ]-[ ] | | F: Fire ring battle [ ] [I] Q: Quicksand battle | | I: Ice battle Entrance ---> [ ]-[ ]-[Q]-[ ] [ ]-[Q]-[ ]-[ ] <--- Boss | | [ ] [ ] | | [ ]-[F]-[ ]-[ ]-[F]-[ ] None of the normal battles leading up to the boss are anything special; just a bunch of normal battles mixed with some ice, quicksand, and fire ring fights. Easy stuff. The boss battle is against Kilik, who is always a formidable opponent. In this case, however, getting the win will most likely be pretty easy for you, as there really isn’t any difference between this fight and a normal fight (ie, no special conditions). **Extra Mission** Opponent: Boss – Guardian of Arcturus (Voldo) Objective: Navigate through the booby-trapped dungeon and defeat the boss! Experience: 4600 | Gold: 16800 This dungeon is no different from the normal one, so everything from above applies here as well. This time the boss is Voldo, though, so you’ll have to fight a tougher opponent. No big deal, though, as he’s still somewhat simple to beat. The main catch here is that normal attacks don’t do a whole lot of damage, so you have to get him to burn in the fire by standing in the lava for a few seconds. ******************************************************************************* d) Procyon ******************************************************************************* ***How do I unlock Procyon?*** Beat Stage 3 of Subchapter 3. Muliphein’s Crypt *********** ***** Opponents: Necrid, Lizardman, Charade, Astaroth Objective: The ability to knock back the enemy has been increased. Moreover, you cannot hold your footing at the edge of the stage. Defeat the enemy under these conditions! Experience: 2000 | Gold: 7500 Although you can knock enemies back further than usual, I find that it tends to be easier to simply go for the K.O., since getting a ring out requires that you get near the edge of the arena, which can be dangerous. Why is it so dangerous? One slick move from your foe and you’ll be in the drink, as you cannot hold your footing at the edge. I’d only go for the ring out if you’re already near the edge; don’t go out of your way to try for one. Also, don’t worry TOO much about your energy, because some of it is restored between matches. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Assassin, Lizardman, Berserker, Necrid Objective: You cannot hold your footing at the edge of the stage, unseen forces push the opponents apart. Defeat the enemy under these conditions! Experience: 4000 | Gold: 15000 Like this mission’s easier counterpart, I recommend avoiding ring outs and going for a direct K.O., since you still can’t keep your balance at the edge of the stage. As per usual, health is restored between battles so this isn’t too difficult. Tower of Happiness ***** ** ********* Opponent: Charade Objective: The strong gusts increase your ability to knock back the enemy. Defeat the enemy with a ring out! Furthermore, receive heavy damage when knocked into the wall or ground. Defeat the enemy with a ring out. Experience: 4000 | Gold: 6000 Same thing as before. Still works like a charm. Mount Procyon ***** ******* Opponent: Yunsung Objective: You will be launched high into the air when knocked to the ground. Defeat the enemy under this condition! Experience: 2000 | Gold: 3000 Normal attacks don’t do any damage AT ALL, so you’ll have to rely on air combos. Don’t know any good ones? Try Mitsurugi’s back+X then Y or you could use his A+Y. They both work perfectly in this situation. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Random Objective: Combatants are launched high into the air when knocked to the ground. Use air combos to defeat the enemy! Experience: 4000 | Gold: 6000 The moves I listed right above still work fine. Use them. Lynx Arbor **** ***** Opponents: Four random opponents followed by Unknown (Link) Objective: The monetary prize doubles with each win. Gauge your strength and win the matches! Experience: 2000 | Gold: Ranges from 800-12800 There really isn’t any strategy for this mission –- it simply comes down to pure skill. Of course, seeing as how I’ve beat this mission, it can’t take much too skill, because I’m pretty sucky overall. Anyway, if it’s too hard you can just quit after the first match or two. **Extra Mission** Opponents: Four random opponents followed by Unknown (Link) Objective: The enemies are quick and possess weapons that excel in Guard Breaks. The monetary prize doubles with each win. Gauge your strength and win the matches! Experience: 4000 | Gold: Varies from 1200-19200 This is just a tougher version of the original, so there isn’t anything else for me to say. In other words, you have to take as little damage as possible if you want to make it to the very end intact. Fortunately, your health is partially replenishes between fights and ring outs are easier to get than usual. The boss fight is against a very agile and potent Ivy. If your health isn’t at or near it’s maximum, I recommend retreating to one of the rooms marked “R” and regaining some. Other than that, the battle is decently easy. **Extra Mission** Opponent: Boss - Light of the Shadow Objective: Navigate through the booby-trapped dungeon and defeat the boss! Which character do you use? *A: I’m not at all positive, but I think that Cervantes is overall the best character, according to the tiers. Of course, your personal skill with a character is much more important that how a character ranks on a tier, so there is no specific best character. As for who I use, I was formerly a Link player, but then I started using Mitsurugi and began to see how bad Link sucks. So yeah, I use Mitsie. *Q: How about the worst character? *A: Not a clue. I’d guess either Link or Yunsung, since I hear a lot of bad stuff about them, but you can get pretty good with any character if you work at it. *Q: What’s the best way to make money? *A: Go to the second level of Chapter 9. You can rack up a TON of cash by doing this over and over again, either the normal version or the extra mission. *Q: From which stages do I unlock the secret characters? *A: Here’s a happy little list I made up: Yoshimitsu - Thuban Stage 3 Charade - Benetnasch Stage 1 Cervantes - Benetnasch Stage 4 Sophitia - Mizar Stage 5 Seung Mina - Aldebaran Stage 3 Assassin - Beat Subchapter 3, Stage 2 Berserker - Beat Subchapter 1, Stage 1, the Extra Mission Lizardman - Beat everything in Weapon Master Mode, including all of the Extra Missions *Q: From which stages do I unlock the secret arenas? *A: I made a list for this too. Here it is: Lakeside Coliseum - Regulus Stage 3 Money Pit/Top Tier - Mizar Stage 1 Labyrinth - Aldebaran Stage 6 Hwangseo Palace/Phoenix Court - Rigel Stage 2 Egyptian Crypt - Merak Stage 5 *Q: How do I unlock Subchapter 2? *A: First off, you need to be at Level 72 (Iron Edgemaster) at least. Once you’ve attained that class, you need to go beat Chapter 4, Stage 3 (even if you’ve already beaten it you need to do it again). Doing that will unlock Subchapter 2 for you. *Q: What is the highest class possible? What class are you at right now? *A: I don’t know the class title, but I’m sure there’s a Level 99. From what I’ve heard, though, attaining that level would take something around 100 million experience points, so there’s no way I’m going to try to get that. I’m only at Level 76 (Platinum Edgemaster). *Q: How do I unlock the extra missions? *A: Simply beat Stage 3 of Chapter 10 and the extra missions will become available. *Q: Where can I find everyone’s last three weapons? *A: You can buy them in Subchapter 2 and the two Extra Chapters. +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+ * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * VII) Revision History * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+ *Version - 1.1 Date - 2/11/04 Details - Added some purty ASCII, compliments of osrevad. *Version - 1.0 Date - 10/18/03 Details - The first complete version of this FAQ.
